Any guides or step by step instructions please to help me configure my modem/router PPPoE protocol.

Red port on the Netgear connect to the correct port on your ONT.

 

On Netgear set PPPoE, username/password anything you like.

Really as simple as that. If you're going towards Gigabit bare in mind the D7000 won't handle it (you'll want the N7000 + Tomato for this task).

Surely I could use a USB 3.0 RJ45 Ethernet Adapter 10/100/1000 Mbps to run gigabyte data.?

It is more the router itself won't route anything above around 500Mbit and has no custom firmware support to fix it.

Ok well that sux for this model D7000 no firmware fix or update? 500Mbits isnt too bad i guess..
