So I've been with BigPipe for over 4 years now and only had minor routing issues, overall it's been pretty good. In a month I'm moving house so I assume the new tenants have arranged to get their internet connected as I got an email about another ISP requesting my connection. This is all pretty normal except in the email It talks about my Skinny connection even though the email is from BigPipe. I've never even had any business with Skinny, nor has anyone in my family. What happened next was I got an email from Skinny themselves which was almost identical to the one from BigPipe. Both emails are from the somebody with the same name too and also had the same case ID reference number at the bottom too. I'm guessing they are all run under Spark or something, not sure if this would breach the Privacy Act though since the companies shouldn't be sharing any of my personal information. Is this normal for BigPipe connections these days?

Hi,

We’ve received a notification from Chorus that another ISP has requested your Skinny connection at STREET be disconnected. This is pretty common if someone has signed up for a connection at the wrong address or if you’re on the move.

I just wanted to check in with you to find out if you’re still using your connection with us?

If so that’s great, just reply back to this email ASAP and you won’t have any interruption of service. However, if you no longer need your connection let us know as well so we can sort things out on our end.

Look forward to hearing back from you!

Cheers,
Ian

Yes, same parent company - Spark.

The problem is that you have to work with your ISP to make sure they don't end up disconnecting you straight away even before you move.

Skinny and Bigpipe are both owned by Spark, and both use Spark's network.

Ok Thanks for the replies everyone, just thought it was weird two different companies both had my information, but I guess if they are both owned by Spark thats why. I've emailed them to let them know which date I need my connection too also.

Hi guys, as others have already mentioned we do indeed have a close relationship with both Spark and Skinny.

Some aspects of our support systems and processes between Bigpipe and Skinny also overlap. Regarding privacy, in this case the staff member that sent the emails is skilled across both products and has made a mistake - sorry about that @nonahs.

Feel free to PM me your case ID (or account email address) so we can have a look as to what has happened here.
