Cheap gillette blades online are likely to be fake. You don't have to believe me and if they work fine for you - great.

I personally bought a big supply of Dorco 6 blade system for about $70 USD.. It included 3 handle+2 cartridge packs, and 6*6 cartridge refills... For a total of 42 blades.

Feels 95% as good as Gillette blades and given how cheap they are I throw the blades after about half the use I made the gillettes do, so on average it's better.

wasabi2k: Clearly there is a great amount of variance in:

1. People's facial hair and
2. People's tolerance for a rubbish/painful shave

To the same - I cannot use electric razors, some people swear by them.

Ditched my electric over a year ago, haven't looked back :)

I'd rate my facial hair as quite hard so I need a decent razor, but the blades I use will only last 2-3 shaves for my brother.

As soon as the shave quality drops I change the blade, which in one case had lasted close to 4 months.

I'm wondering if there is some serious differences in blade quality from batch to batch.

I bought some to try from Aliexpress that fit a well known 5 bladed razor. About US$4.50 for 4 blades and are absolutely fine. Possibly dont last as long as originals, hard to tell.

Didnt realise Dollarshaveclub shipped to NZ, have one of their handles and super impressed with their blades so might give them another crack in future.

Dollarshaveclub use Dorco razors and if you are prepared to buy in (moderate) bulk, then buying direct from Dorco can be a LOT cheaper - in my case I think it was about 60% cheaper.

No probs - also, look around and ask for Dorco discount codes - they always seem to have good discounts out there.

Ah yeah - I used Youshop actually for those... I think they don't ship to NZ usually... Still came in at well under $100 USD for over a year of shaving (I don't shave every day)

I'm coming close to finishing my bulk buy of gillette fusion razors. I got a good deal of $150 or so for blades that lasted me 18 months, but the website doesn't seem to be active any more.

Now people have had a bit more time with them, how are the Shave Union and Dollar Shave Club / Dorco razors liking them?

@wasabi2k , @guv, how much slower is it using a single/double edge razor than using something like the gillette fusion? How often do you cut yourself? I found an ok safety razor intro article here, but for someone who's never used anything other than gillette it seems a bit vague. Do you need to use a brush? Oil? Gel from a can?

Hi Timmay

I find it quicker to be honest.   But you do you need to give it time to get used to it - you are probably going to be slower initially but over time you will speed up.

I only cut myself a) when I try and rush or b) when the blade is blunt.

I use a brush and some shave cream - this stuff is good http://www.mancave.co.nz/products/shaving/soaps-and-creams/taylor-of-old-bond-street

P
ost shave I use http://www.mancave.co.nz/products/shaving/post-shave/alum-block    lasts for around 12 months.

Cheers
Guv
