Just wondering if anyone has some good ideas for a indoor winter HIIT workout, hopefully one that doesn't require the spending of money on equipment

Over the summer of 2015/2016 I did a couple of exercises (sprinting and slow then very fast biking) which in combination with body weight training saw me lose a good deal of weight; moving to just doing some weights over early winter saw the weight stay steady. Then I went overseas, and when I came back the motivation hasn't been there to do much - as a result, the weight is very slowly going back on (approx 2kg gained since June 2016)

However I now have the motivation :-)

Bag work? Can get a decent heavy bag for around $50 sec/hand and then rock short-round intervals on it (interesting this is an HIIT workout boxers have been doing for decades - nothing's ever new).

I've been following some HIIT exercises on Youtube and while they certainly bring back the same results I had after bike ride, I am not coordinated enough to do some of the exercises

As a result, I think I want to get a stationary exercycle to "mimic" the real bike ride, but in the comfort of home

Anyone have any tips/tricks on what to look for in a bike .. Trademe for local pickup in Dunedin is rather empty at the moment

Do you have a bike now? If so just buy an indoor trainer. You can pick up pretty cheap on trade me or torpedo 7 if you want a new one.
