Bit the bullet and went to Shoe Clinic, got a podiatrist assessment (free) and ended up with Brooks Adrenaline 18's. The priciest shoes I've bought so far but what price do you place on your health right? Now that I know what type of shoes I need, I can now go online and look for the bargains.

Thats exactly the thinking that I had.  Since I used their service, I bought my first pair of shoes from them.  Now I find the same brand/model (different versions ie year on year) from online.  I save over 50% of the original price....so that's the "fee" for their free service I guess.

Amazon. I have flat feet, but I have found a brand and type of shoe I like, and it's less than half price there.

Yeah, that same approach worked for me for a few years, but there’s never an assurance the shoe manufacturer won’t change the design to the point they no longer fit properly!

I’ve bought New Balance 1260s for years after getting fitted at the Shoe Clinic; they have been the best shoes until last year, at which point a design change with a new version means I am having huge problems with fit. I’m planning on going back to the Shoe Clinic for another check to find a better pair. Maoriboy: do you think it was worth the podiatrist check over that provided by the store staff? I’m pretty sure I’ll be using the same shop as you (PN) and wasn’t sure if I should book in to see the podiatrist.

I’d also say there’s no assurance of quality continuing on the same model shoe (or even brand). My latest pairs of 1260s have worn SO much faster than earlier pairs. Also, we’ve been buying New Balance shoes for our boys, and the recent pairs of them have real QC issues including stitching unraveling etc. That’s kind of expected on a $30 Warehouse pair, not a $100 pair of kids’ NBs...

Those Brooks Adrenelines are the only shoes I have found that compete for comfort with my Kayano 23's. The current gen on both shoes is insanely comfortable.

For court shoes the Gel Domains are amazing as well.

If anyone is after Asics Kayano or Nimbus kogan.com are doing decent prices on them with free shipping to NZ. I picked up last year's Nimbus for $139 NZD all inclusive.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

@johnathan18 I would recommend it for sure. He pointed out my running technique, figured out I had a calf strain in my left leg (by the way I was walking round the shop) and pointed me towards stability shoes when I had always thought to be more of a neutral runner. Took the time to analyse me running on the treadmill using various shoes and comparing movement etc. For me it was well worth it.

Have only taken the shoes out for one run so far (12k), but noticed an immediate difference in how my feet and legs felt afterwards. So far so good, and with the 30 day return policy if I have any issues with them I can take them back and try something else.

Already convinced another fellow GZ Palmerstonian to book in this Saturday at Shoe Clinic hahaha. Maybe I should ask them for a commission?

Well, you’ve convinced me! The next slot I could get isn’t until 24 March, but I’m sure another five weeks of dodgy shoes is manageable... Thanks for the info.

Well, after umming and ahhing about getting my shoes from Shoe Clinic I have, over the past 3 months, spent close to $800 there with 2 pairs of shoes for myself (Brooks Adrenalines and Mazama 2 trail shoes imported specifically for me by Brooks Australia and Shoe Clinic), I then took the wife in as she needed shoes and got her fitted as well. Ahhhh the joys of buying shoes :-).
Almost time to get another pair to complete my running shoe rotation as now aiming for a 50Km ultra run within the next 12 months and need some long distance trail shoes. Whoever tells you running is a cheap form of exercise needs a good smack smile

I buy mine from Smith's Shoes (street/treadmill) and Bivouac Outdoors (trail shoes).  Not cheap but great advice and service.  I have Brooks for light trails Asics for street/mill and Salomon for proper trail running.

Once in a specialized shop with full paid service, analytics, whistles and bells - fair. Remember your brand, series and size.

Then always the last year's model of the series by internet order - almost half the price, snug like the old ones.

I know there are a lot of Kayano fans here.  This might interest you.

I buy most of my running shoes from these guys.  $25 delivery to NZ.

Also worth checking wiggle for running gear.

I really like my K24's. Asics are one of the very few companies who make 4E and 2E shoes.

Thanks for the links.
