People here really get prickly when it comes to their junk food. I find that intriguing.
People like myself are not prickly about "our" junk food because I don't personally eat it (aside from about once in a blue moon, followed by instant "why did I do that" regret!). What I am personally prickly about is people presuming upon themselves to lord it over others by dictating to them what they can eat by either banning or taxing the "unapproved" items.
Educate and then let people decide for themselves.
But we have been educating - for decades - yet the obesity epidemic is apparently getting worse.

The title of the thread is "Another early grave filthy food pusher sees NZ as a soft target"
and you wrote in the OP...

An item on RNZ today. Deciding that Kiwi's aren't getting enough bowel cancer from the crap they shovel down their throats from America's fat food giants, yet another one has decided to get rich off our craving for early death by oral overload. When I drive down the main street in Hastings, what I mainly see are wall to wall junk food palaces lining both sides. How much crap can people stuff into themselves? I guess Americans are determined to make us as absurdly overweight as they are. At the moment we are only number three in the world. We are increasing in premature death, though.
Talk about freedom of choice! Now you can destroy your body with fake Mexican food as well. What is left? I think every crap food outfit in that country has now invaded us. Someone should organise a march. If only they could get up from the table.
There not a single balanced or reasonable statement in your entire post, except that the item was "on RNZ today".
Why should anyone take your argument seriously when you overblow literally every point you make beyond reasonable limits? I will not take someone's argument seriously or even evaluate it on it's legitimate merits if they so clearly demonstrate that they are a zealot or fanatic.

So far we are up to 10 pages on this and it seems to show no sign of fading out, though I have tried to withdraw a couple of times. I would say I have succeeded in kicking off a very vigorous discussion. A lot of it has been vehemently disagreeing with me, and that is fine. It is what debate is all about. But there have also been other replies, some quite balanced. At one point early in someone asked me how I would solve it and I suggested taxation and everyone freaked out. That is clearly a sore point with some. But a lot of people are thinking about the issue. That sounds like education to me.

People still engage with Flat Earthers. Discussion isn't always warranted or good. Don't mistake quantity for quality.

It's pointless blaming businesses. Where they set up shop and what they sell follows consumer demand.
(1) Its pointless blaming payday loans companies for charging 400% interest and truck-shops for turning up just before benefit day and selling stuff at a 500% markup. they only follow the consumer demand.
(2) Its pointless blaming the meth labs and tinny houses, where they set up shop and what they sell follows consumer demand.
(3) Its pointless blaming the contract killers and hit-men, they are only following consumer demand.
There are reasons that certain activities are considered unethical and/or illegal. There's not a bright line between all-good and definitely-bad.
I numbered your e.g. to keep this brief
(2) and (3) are illegal so there is clear difference from simply following demand and selling donuts.
I would suggest that (1) is illegal too, because people are being misled about their terms of credit or simply don't understand them or clearly can't afford the loan they are being signed up to.
Selling hamburgers, not illegal. Bright-line difference. Bright as day, clear as a bell.

So explain how NZ sheep have a high incidence of bowel cancer too.
All that filthy grass they eat huh?
gzt: Main problem with fast food is purveyors are usually engaged in trying to make it faster which tends to make it unhealthier. Tends to. Also cheaper to produce tends towards the same effect.
Is the food really unhealthier or just people eat too much?
McDonald's says its beef patties are made of beef mince only, salt and pepper. Add a slice of Mainland cheese, a bun and tomato sauce and tell me how is this unhealthy, compared to that staple of Kiwi food, fish and chips?

I hardly dare to comment but I believe that tomato sauce generally has a very high sugar content and are there not different grades of beef mince, from lean and expensive to fat, gristle and cheap? I am asking, not making a statement. I do not think fish and chips can be held up as a healthy alternative, especially as the fish is deep fried, but I suppose it at least it has the virtue of being traditional.

Do the sheep here have a high bowel cancer rate? I didn't know that. Can you provide a link? I would be interested to learn more.

Is that correct - do you have a source for that?
Edit - oops bingo. At least two people want to know :-)
There are many grades of meat, the fatty stuff makes the best patties which is why that tends to be used for burgers. If you still believe the crap about fat in your food = getting fat and buying "low fat" options then I guess you would want to avoid all burgers.

I think you'll find that sugar is a main ingredient in the buns and all their sauces. IIRC some of their sauces / relishes, sugar is the main ingredient by volume after water, and in the buns, #3 after water and flour. I do not believe that is good - or necessary to make a "good tasting" burger. I'm rather strongly of the belief that it's intended to appeal to children, and it's probably not good for them either.
I believe that "shoestring" fries are not a good idea, due to increased potential for formation of carcinogenic compounds in deep frying as the surface area is much higher than "chunky" fries.
As for the soft drinks, soft-serve ice cream, apple pies etc - absolute pure unhealthy junk - I wouldn't touch it.
I believe their beef is probably quite good quality.
I also expect that "food safety" in terms of avoiding acute food poisoning is their #1 priority any incident will be big news and very bad for business. Perception of "food safety" from a long term health effect POV is something that can be mainly contained by effective marketing - "but we sell salad too" etc.
