Anyway, please keep politics out of this thread (the Trump thread has got it covered).

If Trump recovers quickly from a mild infection he will just reinforce the view "it's a mild flu".

I wonder if VP Biden has also been tested, considering he was is reasonably close proximity for quite a long time and without a mask. It is far more of a worry when these old people get it.

Just goes to show that despite how careful people are being, people can still get it. We are so lucky in NZ that we are keeping to this elimination strategy, despite Oz putting pressure on us to open the bubble when they are not following the same strategy. .

Considering how the British PM nearly died from it, that should have been a warning how dangerous this virus is. IMO trying to continue to work while having the virus, like the British PM did, could cause problems, as the body needs time to recover. So things like rest to allow the body to fight it can be essential.  Anyone over 70 have a far higher risk of complications and potentially they could have it for months. We know how long it takes for some people take to recover. Some still haven't recovered have have developed CFS / ME from it, or other complications which some people may have for life..

Although it is likely this virus will kill about 0.5 % of the population who get it (Bill Gates quoted this figure previously) when the final counts are done, that is still far more than visruses like the flu, and it will kill a far higher percentage of those aged over 70.

Washington Post: Trump postponing campaign events after positive test; Biden tests negative for coronavirus

President Trump is experiencing “mild symptoms” after he and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for the coronavirus, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told reporters Friday. The first lady said on Twitter that she, too, has “mild symptoms” but is “overall feeling good.” Trump will postpone or make virtual all of his previously scheduled campaign events, his campaign manager said Friday.

Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s campaign announced that Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, have both tested negative for the coronavirus....

It wouldn't surprise me if this is just fake so he can avoid the next debate. He can come out and say how he 'beat' corona and get the sympathy vote.

Batman:

Trump getting top treatment

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/president-trump-confirms-he-first-lady-melania-trump-tested-positive-for-coronavirus

The Regeneron cocktail cost alone is hard to find, but estimated $40,000 to $60,000. I'm sure American taxpayers bill for Trump and Melania will be at least one million.

My brother is involved in a serious car accident. His medical bill was 1.5 million the first 6 months, another 1.5 million the next year.

I sat next to another patient sole treatment was laying in bed, and getting a continuous saline intravenous bag drip, nothing else. He was paying about $50,000/day.

If you don't know already, if you travel to the US, always get plenty of health insurance, 'cause otherwise you facing bankruptcy if you're put in an American hospital uninsured. At least you'll be in good company with the 1/3 of Americans either uninsured, or under-insured.

As NSW records 8 consecutive days without local cases, one wonders if thoughts might shift to elimination ?
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-03/nsw-hits-eight-day-streak-of-zero-local-coronavirus/12728868
Well elimination is not really total elimination, but more restricting virus to infrequent low % chance border sourced outbreaks that are quickly contained.
Vs sustained CT.

Why easing NSW's coronavirus social-distancing restrictions is 'not that simple'
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-01/nsw-coronavirus-social-distancing-restrictions-explainer/12718210

""
It's hard to say what restrictions would be lifted first, but a logical place to start is restaurants, as people in NSW have been there before.

As the state emerged from its social-distancing lockdown, people were permitted — at one point — to make bookings for up to 20 people at eateries, before that was reduced to 10 from July 25 as several COVID-19 clusters sprung up around Sydney.
""
Hospitality businesses in NSW and Queensland are still adhering to a four-square-metre rule — where capacity is determined based on one person per four-square metres of floorspace.

In Tasmania and South Australia, the number of patrons permitted in these venues is calculated on a two-square-metre rule, and in WA people can be served even if they don't have a seat.
""

NSW enduring problem is a long border with Victoria at the moment, and even with some restrictions a large volume of interstate traffic.

The National Government in Canberra seems to be leaning in different direction, where the States seem to see a much greater value, and inherent value in zero or near zero cases.

Edit , Typo

I read something yesterday that the NSW premier said that elimination wasn't possible or practical. It is also possible there is still low level community transmission occurring. They do appear to have social distancing restrictions, so are more locked down than NZ is.They never did the full level 4 lockdown like NZ to purge the undetected community cases.  So it still seems they are more about flattening the curve that true eliination, so not fully compatible with NZs approach, which is why I am guessing the PM isn't interested in reciprocating the bubble yet. That bubble mainly benefits Oz, and I question the timing with it being so close to an election in NZ.

but he wasnt careful, which is the reason he got it

Behind closed doors he is apparently a germophobe. Certainly he has been wearing masks etc in certain situations. Although he has held these big rallies, he appears to have been socially distanced himself. But I think he is going to become the posterchild for this virus. IMO it was only a matter of time before he got it. We have to remember that the next King of England got the virus, as did the British PM. Prince Charles is also a similar age to Trump, but didn't get it bad. So it is a bit of a lottery as to how sick he will become from it. He could be sick for a few months from it.

Just goes to show how lucky we are in NZ. We have politicians pressing flesh at the moment, without having to really worry too much about the virus.
