I'm a single mom with a struggling business, so it's OK if I exploit a loophole and endanger lives

Globalnews Canada: Ontario barbershop is using film set exemption to reopen amid pandemic

A barbershop owner who created a production studio that also offers haircuts amid Ontario’s COVID-19 lockdown insists her business is “safe” and “sanitary.”

Alicia Hirter, owner of Chrome Artistic Barber, says her storefront now includes cameras, microphones and production lighting in a venture that offers “auditions” for a future podcast or documentary. The idea is to operate as a film or TV set, since those are exempt from Ontario’s lockdown rules.

As creative as her idea might be, her studio operation has caught the attention of regional health authorities, who say they are “monitoring” the situation.

...Hirter said the idea for the shift came after learning that television and movie sets were exempt from the province’s latest shutdown measures.

TB is a good example of a virus that could be eliminated with vaccines but still kills 3 million people a year.

TB is a mycobacterium - not a virus.

Came here to say this.

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/travel/2021/01/cook-islands-cancels-nz-flight-over-northland-covid-19-case-concerns.html

Cook Islands have cancelled a flight to Raro due to the Northland case, although the passengers will possibly travel Saturday, assuming all good Covid wise. Given that and Australia, taking the plunge on a  wee trip nearby would be too much hassle and risk for many, so forget bubbles. Any burble of covid activity will mean delays, accommodation costs and annoyance.

Support NZ instead.

Covid deaths: 'Hard to compute sorrow' of 100,000 milestone - PM - BBC News

More than 100,000 people have died with Covid-19 in the UK, after 1,631 deaths within 28 days of a positive test were recorded in the daily figures.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he took "full responsibility" for the government's actions, saying: "We truly did everything we could."

"I'm deeply sorry for every life lost," he said.

A total of 100,162 deaths have been recorded in the UK, the first European nation to pass the landmark.

Deaths due to coronavirus (COVID-19) compared with deaths from influenza and pneumonia, England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)

Of all death occurrences between January and August 2020, there were 48,168 deaths due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) compared with 13,619 deaths due to pneumonia and 394 deaths due to influenza.

The proportion of deaths occurring in care homes due to COVID-19 was almost double the proportion of deaths due to influenza and pneumonia (30.0% and 15.2% respectively).

In comparison with the deaths due to influenza and pneumonia occurring in the year to 31 August 2020, deaths due to COVID-19 have been higher than every year monthly data are available (1959 to 2020).

Really worried at the back and forth about vaccine effectiveness in media outlets. Not so much what is being discussed - this stuff needs to be hashed out.

More worried about the mere presence of doubt being something that disingenuous anti-vaxxers will seize upon to further their own agenda.

Thrashed out or mere clickbait? Its obviously the latter as everyone knows that no one knows yet. They can't discuss, cough, with anyone as there is no one thta can answer it. Normal people will wait till we get results

Anybody having issues turning on bluetooth tracing on ios?
Ive an iphone XS max, running ios 14.something and the dashboard in the tracer app asks me to allow permissions in settings, however when the app puts me in settings there is nowhere to allow this.
Weirdly BT was on Im sure last I checked (a month or so ago).

When I hear about COVID loonies, I always think of the US.

But there's a good number who buy into the conspiracy theories in the UK, including the classic "5G activates COVID"

I saw some mention of Piers Morgan being suggested as their next PM. PM...get it. Mainly because of his ability to give straight answers, and ask straight questions of politicians involved in this covid mess over there. This is unlike many politicians who never answer the question they are asked, and many NZ politicians , especially ones in power rather than opposition, are just as bad at this.
