Batman:

some data fr UK govt about vaccines vs covid transmission

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/covid-19-coronavirus-figures-show-vaccines-cut-two-thirds-of-infections/DBHXZE7CTZWK5P7ATHLMWWBKJU/

That's very positive, and will hopefully lower the risks of future border/MiQ incursions...

One real scary issue is where entire countries such as Tanzania get locked into "Covid19 does not exist because it has been prayed away", and refuses vaccines. This could mean a large number of Covid19 sufferers and virus mutations that could render vaccines less effective. But what can be done about this ?

They can't afford it. It's that simple. Every test every treatment every action every prevention costs too much.

That's the result of poverty that we developed nations ignore or possibly have been profiting off.

Part reason for the campaign for pushing a variant of 'do your research' but on reputable sources

Like that'll work.

I have another suggestion for the app:

On receiving the vaccination you scan a QR code which indicates you have been vaccinated. So if you later become a close contact the QR data base can then prioritise tracing a bit better to those that have not been vaccinated.

What I don't understand is how those who refuse to get vaccinated think we're going to eradicate Covid and return to some form of prior normality.

As far as I know there isn't a Plan B.

(I'm sure we'll get the percentage high enough for herd immunity and the naysayers will benefit from that but hopefully you get my drift.)

Thanks for explaining "plethora".

It means a lot.

As brutal as it is to be honest I take the view that couldn't care less about the people who won't take it.

When our borders reopen and Covid renters society and becomes just like the flu (except with a higher R0) those people ARE the ones who are going to become ill, and some will die. Maybe when that starts happening those people will realise that the only people they're causing harm to are themselves.

Can someone clarify this.

Right now we quarantine 100% of incoming passengers, to cover off importing the virus.

When vaccination is well under way, and border quarantine is potentially removed (as incoming and citizens are vaccinated) what occurs when (if effectiveness was 75%) when we can still import the virus (as 25% didn't get the protection of the vaccine)  and similarly, 25% of citizens here aren't protected?

Being a retired paediatric nurse I have seen first hand the damage these anti-vaxxers and such like idiots do to society.

As I am supposedly starting my sunset years therefore a weaker immune system, I have a care factor of 0 for those selfish people.

”My people skills are just fine - it’s my tolerance to idiots that needs work on”

According to the MoH website it’s going to take a year to vaccinate a population half that of London. Seems a bit leisurely.

This isn't new. The end of Q1 2022 has long been given as the finish date of our vaccine rollout.

It's only been in the last week or so that Hipkins and others have started saying that everybody who wants to be vaccinated will be by the end of the year - but in the same breath still referring to it being a 12 month program.

Remember at this stage the vast majority of the general public aren't going to get the vaccine until August at the earliest - the general public rollout is planned for July onwards, with the first vaccines going to high priority groups.

It may not be new but it is unacceptably slow in my view.

They seem content to let tourism and international facing businesses die under a bus whilst they dither about on something that really deserves a bit more effort.
