If a headline starts with "Florida" or "Texas", or within the text has Republican or "richest", you know it ain't good news.

Writer Stephen King lives in this Florida area, which seems appropriate, because he's rich and given lots of people nightmares. Also a home to pro-wrestlers, and rich circus folks.

CNN: Florida county commissioner limited vaccine drive to the two richest zip codes and then created a 'VIP list'

A Manatee County, Florida, commissioner broke protocol for equitable vaccine distribution, which she had previously voted in favor of, when planning a vaccine drive initiated by Governor Ron DeSantis.

Vanessa Baugh admitted on Thursday that she "wanted to make sure certain people were on the list" for vaccination after emails revealed that she directed county officials to create a list to let her and others jump the line. In response to criticism that county officials had only permitted residents from the two richest zip codes in the county to get vaccinated at the event, Baugh further admitted that she picked the zip codes herself.

In a public county commissioner meeting on Thursday, Baugh apologized for the criticism regarding the "pop-up" vaccination site, but said that if presented with the opportunity again, "I will do exactly what I did this time." Baugh further explained that she "did exactly what (DeSantis) wanted" in organizing the vaccine drive.

On Tuesday, in another public county commissioner meeting, Baugh said that the vaccine drive was initiated by Governor DeSantis and a wealthy real estate developer.

CNN: Governor DeSantis defends controversial vaccine deal with developer -- and threatens to pull vaccines if officials don't like it

Florida's Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has threatened to move a pop-up vaccination clinic that his state has set up in an affluent community in Manatee County after he was confronted with allegations of political favoritism and preference for the wealthy at a news conference Wednesday.

..Manatee County Commissioner Misty Servia, a Republican, criticized the selection of these two areas at a Board of County Commissioners work session on Tuesday.

"You're taking the Whitest demographic, the richest demographic in Manatee County and putting them ahead of everyone else," Servia said. "The optics are bad ... very bad -- I'm really disappointed," she added.

More Florida news. Definitely the wrong state to commit this crime, cause he'll be going to prison for a long time.

Sun Sentinel Florida news: Florida Men accused of posing as US marshals to get out of wearing masks

Hotel staff asked two maskless men to cover their faces. ... They told hotel staff they were U.S. marshals and flashed phony passes — similar to ones that have been used by others around the U.S. who claim to be exempt from any mask-wearing requirement.

One employee ...called the police. When the police and a real marshal got there on Feb. 11, the scheme collapsed and Walter Wayne Brown Jr., 53, and Gary Brummett, 81 were arrested and charged with impersonating a federal officer.

A hotel manager said Brummett had gone to the front desk earlier ... to ask for a coffee.

When the manager and another hotel employee told him he needed to wear a mask, Brummett flashed a laminated card that said he was medically exempt from wearing one. When the manager asked again, Brummet pointed to a badge he wore on his belt.

“Do you know what this means,” he said, according to the complaint. “I’m a U.S. marshal and can have you arrested if you force me to wear a mask.”

On Feb. 9, the employees had a similar confrontation with Brown Jr. when he first checked into the hotel.

One employee gave Brown Jr. a mask and asked him to wear it. But Brown Jr. said he was a federal agent and did not have to, according to the complaint. Like Brummett, he pointed to a badge on his belt and a card around his neck.
...
Around their necks each man also wore laminated cards titled “Facemask Exempt Notice/Card.” According to the complaint, the cards stated that the person wearing it was exempt from any ordinance requiring a face mask in public.

“Wearing a face mask poses a mental and/or physical risk to me,” the cards read. “Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, I am not required to disclose my condition to you.” The cards said businesses found to violate the ADA could face a $75,000 fine....

Oh well, not like Kart is a high traffic site, hopefully we get lucky again.
Hopefully we are all in Auckland being cautious, and keeping safe, sanitize, scan and Bluetooth.

Have you ever been to a KMart on a Friday night?

They are a pretty high traffic site. Though these two days, they shouldn't have been - Auckland was at Level 2.

I'm wondering if it's time to put a mandatory masks in public order...until we've all been vaccinated, anyway.

Daughter was there for ~15 minutes on Saturday with a friend who was shopping for kids toys. Apparently KMart were limiting numbers in the shop.

Daughter doesn't have a phone that'll run any tracking apps, so signs in manually wherever she goes (religiously).

She phoned Healthline last night (she was at the shop prior to the listed times on the Healthline site for Saturday, but as the person was working Friday night as well, shouldn't ANY visit on Saturday be treated with caution?)

Anyway, daughter is being treated as a Casual Contact, and in isolation at home - which means we all are.

Daughter has been directed to be tested tomorrow and also at the 12 day mark.

I was supposed to be getting eye surgery next Monday (already deferred from last week due to the clinic being in Auckland and the Level 3 area and I had hayfever. Yes, I got a test ).

So, because someone went to work when they had been directed to isolate (as were all family members of those associated with the Papatoetoe cluster), my surgery is on hold again.

Damn Covid.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Don't blame covid blame the selfish idiot who should of stayed at home.

These people need to be publicly punished harshly and fined a minimum of $1000. If they can not pay then it should be garnished from their pay or 3 months community service.

Bring back the Stocks.

iMac 27" [14.2] (late 2013), Airport Time Capsule 5th gen, iPhone13 x 2, iPad6, iPad Mini5, Spark Smart Modem 1st Gen

Panasonic TV Viera TH-L50E6Z (1080p), Panasonic Blu-ray PVR DMR-BWT835, Yamaha AVR RX-V1085 [6.1 Surround Speaker System], Apple TV 4k 64Gb (2nd gen)

Kia Sportage Urban EX (2019), Suzuki Swift SR7 (2011)

You'll never get the truth out of people if they know they're up for a massive fine.  What they did sucks and they were selfish and it p*sses me right off, but people like them will clam up and lie and deny if they think there's a punishment coming.  These are people who obviously don't do the right thing automatically, the threat of punishment will make that worse.

You are saying the problem has no solution. I don't believe that.

Unfortunately, the solution, which is already evolving, means a fundamental shift of how society works. In the golden days of yore, People could leave their doors unlocked and seal deals with a handshake because anti-social behaviour was minimal and severely ostracised. Individualism was also frowned upon and other restraints helped keep people in check.

Then came the glorious days of freedom. Anyone could claim a right to do anything and personal privacy ruled.

Now we are segueing into the new age of Big Brother. Cameras are everywhere and we are all being controlled. This is a transitional phase and not everything has caught up, but soon all rule breakers, from quarantine ignorers to rogue parkers will get what is coming to them and every other form of deviancy will be squashed out of existence as everyone records every behaviour they don't approve of on their cellphones. Like China, we will have a system of social credit, in which non-conformists never reach the head of the queue.

Blame the anti-social a$$holes for all this. Their selfishness is what we all will be paying for. But at least they won't be able to get away with it anymore!

I don't blame Auckland for what could easily happen anywhere in the country that has international airports and MIQ facilities and a population larger than Whangamata during Christmas.

I do, however, have issues with anyone not playing their part, especially when it's been spelt out to them. That's not Auckland's fault.

I have enough anxiety over the idea that they're going to stick two needless and a torch inside my eyeball, without adding Covid concerns!
