Ok, what I quoted the three symptoms is from the MoH website. Its clear that some GP's are not playing their part if they fob you off. The catch 22 is in part caused by GP's like this who wont entertain a patients call. How much that overloads the 0800 number I'm unsure. Someone else reported in the media took an hour to get through, so one would asusme that everyone is calling them? Maybe everyone with a sniffle? Or they get fobbed off by the GP?
What do you suggest?
I have it from a very reliable source that the Ministry of Health are about to add a lot capacity to their 0800 service.

Thats good to hear. They also need to firm up the role of the GP, and what symptom levels that the GP could be called first (more general symptoms, unlikely to be Coivid-19 but could be)and what levels MoH could be called first (more direct symptoms)
The symptoms you listed cover a huge number of ailments. I'm sure all of us at GZ have had some of those in the last year. MoH listed just the three main ones. If we go by your list, then everyone in NZ who gets a bit crook from any number of ailments will be calling IMHO

I was however showing what I believe is a catch 22 and there should not be catch 22 scenarios when combating this. She is waiting for our GP to ring her.
Currently you need to either have travelled, or be able to demonstrate close contact with someone who has travelled to a risk country, that's why she's getting bumped from the 0800 line and told to go to the GP..
The GP should not be referring her back, but I suspect as soon as they hear the word "Corona" they say call the 0800 number..

My wife is unwell and rang the MOH 0800 number. She found it experience absolutely pointless. They advised her to contact her GP. Our GP has on their website that if you have concerns to contact the MOH 0800 number. Classic catch 22. My wife's job involves dozens of meetings a week and meeting many people she was concerned as the has a low grade temperature around 38.5, headache and sore throat. She was not advised by the MOH to self isolate.
maybe she doesn't meet the Covid alarm bell criteria, hence the response

reminds me of trying to get warranty repairs for my malfunctioning iphone ...
Batman:
don't kiss her
Spraying her with disinfectant is a high priority but she can move faster than me.
afe66: If you have a sore throat and a fever of 38.5 you shouldn't be going to work or meetings anyway......
The number of people that go to work when sick... I doubt some will change their bad habits.

I have a nurse friend who has been working on the 0800 line since well before the coronavirus outbreak. She said when it first kicked off in January she was getting calls from hypochondriacs and racists asking questions such as "I walked past a Chinese person on the street, do I have coronavirus?" and similar nonsense. Also school teachers ringing up for advice after they had already quarantined all the Asian students in a separate classroom.
Young people seem to be fairly resistant to covid-19 (unlike flu).
But, if you are old, obese, or have hypertension, or smoke, the mortality rate is high. If you have all of these factors and catch covid-19, you have a very high chance of dying.
People with kidney disease or who are reliant on chinese manufactured drugs are at risk too , because there will be shortages of medicines and drugs due to Chinese supply chain breakdowns. This hasn't occurred yet, but , just wait.
There will be no vaccine to rescue us in the near to medium term. That is click-bait.
This is just the start too -- I feel the government is reacting rather than planning.
Self isolation means not just isolating yourself but your kids and your partner too.
