Immoral and irresponsible sure but not actually flouting any rules.

Yup. "'laws" perhaps. "Rules" is a possibly a bit ambiguous in meaning, like a "please don't feed the monkeys" sign at the zoo.

If Brian Tamaki follows through with suing all NZ media for calling him out for being a dickhead when it certainly looks to me like he was being a dickhead, it should be entertaining.

He's too fond of other peoples money to actually spend it on litigation. Much better to be a victim and ramp up the tithes

Yes.  I was reading about his "church" shaming some poor kid for tithing only $0.10 / week, which was actually "within the rules" as she had an allowance of $1 / week.

My God he is a miserable excuse for a Human being.

I heard he won't be getting the vaccine (though I bet he does). I know two people who genuinely cannot take this vaccination (1 a kid who it would almost certainly kill) who entirely rely on herd immunity to stuff like this, to be safe.

I don't know how many are in his cult, but I assume his revenue stream will also decide not to be vaccinated?

He is an excellent businessman. To be so, by preying (pun not intended) on the innocent, makes dodgy car dealers look like angels (pun again not intended)

Mmmmm I think I said that.

FineWine:

But this is what these Pentecostal churches do, all in the name of raising money for supposed good works and people (read their leaders). Do they have a private jet or two yet?

Mind you they have nothing on the Australian Hillsong church in Sydney (or any of the large Pentecostal churches across the world). They tithe and also give at the door every Sunday. Brian Houston, who is the pastor and its fervent evangelist is actually a Kiwi. The church was founded by his father Frank Houston who was a child molester but died before justice could be served I believe. However is son and the church knew about the abuse but did not report it to authorities, being afraid it would scare of followers and new members. This all came out at the Australian Royal Commission into Child Abuse.

I am not saying that these churches are any better or worst historically than C of E or Catholic churches etc but they do have the knack to twist words and events all for egotistical monetary gain and believe they are above or better than everyone else.

Handle9 honestly dude, you're trolling at this point and frankly starting to annoy me - "They are your words - you reposted them." I said at the beginning I copied and pasted them, and said I didn't mean to add them on but sure, don't let facts get in way of a good argument with a total stranger.

I think the "Church" was discussed enough. No need to continue here on this topic.

so we're at 0-0-0-0-0 ... you think they'd cut it back to level 2 (instead of level 1) for AKL ...

I guess so.

But some will say its too soon. Always will be complaints, no matter what.

Giving 12-24 hours notice allows time for idiots to plan their stupidity.

It also gives a large number of non-idiots a chance to change their legitimate plans with much-reduced cost and disruption.

Perhaps your car/laptop/medication/whatever is at your relative/friend/work/whatever location and you can't function in L3 without it. Perhaps you/your child/your sick dependant is away from home temporarily, and needs to get home for ongoing care.

Trying to create rules around this is way too complicated to be practical or enforceable: e.g. "You can leave Auckland with a sick relative but must return by yourself (or not return), or vice versa, within the first 8 hours of L3". Every man and his dog wanting to escape Auckland would be "going to get a sick granny" or "delivering the kids to their home at Whangamata".

Jas777:

The one thing that may be the factor is not long periods of sustained close proximity contact with others.  It looks like none of them use public transport, go to church, go to bars, concerts etc where would be in close proximity to others.

Also, wonder if the fact it is still quite warm weather that may lessen the life of the virus particles.

NZ lifestyle is quite different to Britain... public transport is relatively rarely used, and people mostly don't go out to pubs every evening to socialise. And warm weather means people are outside more, where they're much less likely to get infected.
