Handle9:

You're ignoring the real point which is incompetence has meant that this guy has been affected. It's entirely reasonable for him to ask why is he being punished for a systemic mess.

No, I’m not and that’s not true anyway.

Strictly speaking, there aren’t even any guarantees a vaccination would have meant this person could avoid isolation.

In any case, this individual case had not yet had their vaccination for personal reasons - read ‘not systemic”. Note that I’m not saying the vaccine rollout is going swimmingly, just that it doesn’t appear to be the reasoning here.  NZHerald: “The guard was initially said to have missed two appointments due to "personal reasons", but authorities didn't elaborate further.”

It’s also not a punishment in any case - it’s a public health measure.

New location of interest (Bikernevala Bakery in Mt Roskill) from the Grand Millenium MIQ worker case, and an unrelated MIQ guest admitted to hospital with COVID-like symptoms. NewstalkZB

I really don't understand how 72 hours after the announcement of the community transmission (and that's what it is, even though the MoH will now no longer use that terminolgy) that we finally have a location of interest - with more locations of interest expected to be announced soon.

Clearly the guy didn't use the app or keep records of where he went each day..

How we continue to keep dodging bullets like this is just truly remarkable.

Tough cookies - I had to spend two weeks in the house because I spent five minutes in Kmart. I know the feeling so I sympathise, but this is just the sacrifice you have to make for sharing the earth with other people (during a pandemic).

You have to “suffer” (make a short term sacrifice) to prevent the spread of a deadly disease, just as many others have had to. It’s not personal. Fetch me my violin.

100%. Your house isn't a prison or a leper colony. The latter didn't have Netflix so while not ideal by any stretch, its not too hard to be the part of the greater good. Just read the news where we could have been

yeah imagine a doctor saying sorry for not looking at the xray result, you could have died of cancer whether we picked up your cancer or not.

but i agree that "suffering" is relative.

they could be staying at home playing xbox on full pay or they could have missed out on a million dollar business day

Every time we dodge a bullet I am immediately reminded about how stupid humans can be and then I am also reminded that we are humans, we're bound to make mistakes.

Not sympathetic or trying to excuse oh no I am just as mad as the gym goer incident but I am thinking that the government needs to do more than just remind people to use the covid tracer app and do more than just wash hands and sanitize.

Completely understand that we can't make it mandatory nor can we enforce it, we'd end up like the gestapo at that point but people absolutely need to DO more and need to reminded that one mistake like this could put us back in lockdown again or at raised alert levels setting back the economy and making people more frustrated with each other(I imagine that we're all tired and it's leading to complacency).

The new case is a worker has been self isolating since Thursday after being deemed a casual contact of Thursday's case. What's really interesting now is that while MoH criteria for casual and casual plus still exists, that despite this being the B1.1.7 (UK) strain all contacts are now casual whereas MoH criteria says cases related to the B1.1.7 strain should be treated as casual plus.

Lots of new locations of interest added for the security worker and they're saying more to come. This person presumably doesn't use the app or keep track of their location due to the time it's taking to work this out.

No reason why scanning/signing in shouldn't be mandatory.  Nothing like "the gestapo".

Let me put my customer service person/manager thinking cap on and tell you that sure I could refuse you business for not scanning and signing in, but it's the last thing anyone wants to do in this current situation when those small shops need your business.

In reality I could ask you to sign in but I care more about making that sale then anything else.

Of course I'd love it if people actually did scan as much as I do(I scan everywhere) but I do not mess around and I mask up if I am sick or level 2 happens.

One only needs to update to 4.1 to see how rubbish the nation (and in some cases, ones self) is.

Active scanning use statistics are now in your face after each scan. While the nations slackness is in the dashboard

We are slacking and nobody is doing anything about it apart from "Please remember to scan in and turn on bluetooth".

We really need more up take and we really need to educate and encourage others educating others to download the app and scan and how important it is in the very case that they're a close contact or casual contact or if they themselves become infectious.

Gee, I thought it was in front of your eyes.

Saw no-one else scan in to the 4 places I visited yesterday. Didn't need the app to tell me how abysmal things are!

Hmmm the app is also suggesting you create a manual entry even if you just stayed home.

If it's a mandatory / legal requirement, then they're all in the same boat, neither advantaged nor disadvantaged by that requirement.

So - nope.
