Sorry, how do I get URL's to work?

Fixed for you. You enter [url] then the link then end with the / tag.

If you are using the rich text editor, then just paste the URL and enter a space after it or press enter and it automatically creates the links.

Great thanks. I only tried the code as the last time I pasted a link it didn't work either. Now that I know it should change in real time & doesn't have to be posted to see the result I should get it right!!

Back to the regular program.

How are people finding the side effects after the 2nd jab? In Oz (sorry for all the Australian news), people requiring a day off work after it is running at 22%.

I'm in no hurry for the borders to open. Even highly vaccinated countries are struggling.

And then what about the long term side effects from even mild cases. Who's to say you won't get these even when vaccinated.

https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/health-problems/long-covid-australian-scientists-find-blood-abnormalities-after-mild-cases/news-story/0665fa7e46b9370d9eb768eb38f04339

...

re your links

1. Taiwan: Not a 'highly vaccinated country.  Far from it.  Per capita, ~one tenth the number of doses administered in NZ.

2. Seychelles: Yes it is a 'highly vaccinated country but @ 12 Apr, 59% of the doses administered were Sinopharm and the rest, Covishield (Oxford-AZ made under license in India).  See Forbes link below.

Also: https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/13/seychelles-most-vaccinated-nation-on-earth-but-covid-19-has-surged.html.

"The ministry noted that, of the patients requiring hospital treatment, 80% had not been vaccinated and tended to be people with co-morbidities. It added that “almost all” of the critical and severe cases requiring intensive care treatment had not been vaccinated either. To date, none of the patients who have died with Covid-19 have been fully vaccinated, it said"

3. UK: Case rates have been flat to slowly decreasing over the last month - not increasing.  https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

https://www.forbes.com/sites/roberthart/2021/05/11/covid-surges-in-4-of-5-worlds-most-vaccinated-countries-heres-why-the-us-should-worry/?sh=34fd5ebbd677

" ...  a trend that has experts questioning the efficacy of some vaccines (especially China’s Sinopharm)  ..."

==

re 'mild cases'.  Israel (~85% of eligible have had at least one dose, most of those fully vaccinated). All Pfizer-BioNTech.  Case rates have fallen sharply over the last two months, and continue to do so. More than 100 fold reduction in daily new cases since early March.  Positivity rate has typically been 0.1% - 0.2% over the last fortnight.  Suggests they are testing adequately and not missing significant numbers of cases, including mild or even asymptomatic.

Sign outside my local covid vaccination center said that if you are group 3 you can ring this 0800 number and book an appointment.

Gave it a go (i'm group 3) and was told that no I have to wait to be invited by the DHB (I'm in AKL).  But also told me that to be invited I have to ring the Ministry of Health and apply to go on the "early vaccination list".  Was given a new 0800 number to ring, 0800 851 51  [yes, that is the number I was given]

Tried it, no such number.  So I rang the Ministry of Health and was told there was no such thing as an early vaccination list, I'd simply been fobbed of.    *Sigh*

But my friends who rang (also group 3) were given an appointment.  I decided to give it another shot but no luck.  Maybe its who you get which determines if you can book if you're group 3 or whether the DHB has to invite you first.

Bit like a moderate flu/hangover for me.  Worked through it but not very enthusiastically.  All OK day + 2

I've been keeping an eye on the dashboard in the Covid Tracer app over the last couple of weeks and the decline in usage has been quite noticeable. It was tending to track around 700,000 per day which already seemed disappointingly low, but as of 8:40 to night it's down to 537,000.

Came across this in an article about the flu jab. Quite telling.

“In the first month of the rollout, to May 14, more than 425,700 people over 65 were immunised, according to the National Immunisation Register, but the Ministry of Health estimates the actual number is higher.

This is more than the number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the three months since the programme started.”

3 days!! I'm not looking forward to the 2nd shot. I wonder if there will be side effects for any boosters as well in the future.

First shot for me was nothing more than a scratch, second knocked me around a bit the next day, but as above by day +2 I was good to go.  One workmate was the opposite, first shot he had the next day off, second was nothing. Yet another workmate was fine for both.

I guess you won't really know until it's your turn.

3 days is a minor inconvenience.

If you get it bad COVID is not, we have friends here who still had symptoms 6 weeks later. They are under 40 and fit.
