Interesting article from BBC correspondent Andrew Marr on catching Covid despite having both jabs.

Marr on catching Covid after being double vaccinated - BBC News

He would possibly be dead now if he hadn't have had the jabs.

Fred99:

In Aus as from yesterday, anybody can request AZ vaccine from a GP.

Of course *they sabotaged AZ, so I don't expect uptake will be high.

*they = Australian media - clickbait revenue > public interest

Yeah, there was already trouble getting those under 60 who had one dose to return for the follow up so I don't hold out much hope of a huge take up...

They can't fully ramp up their Pfizer rollout until October...

i'm expecting plenty of "reporting" on the million pfizer shots as they arrive in NZ in July, - its pretty much the only "good-ish" news the Govt will have.. -

Many parts of the world we like to compare ourselves to are well through vaccinations and are looking lower border restrictions.

NZ is going to be late to that party... but the question will be how late...

Yes but how can we improve this? Can we demand Pfizer complete all of our orders in July instead of the current schedule they have given us? Why have others got more vaccines than us? Because those vaccines are actively saving lives

Could we buy up the crappy vaccines and just use them?

FineWine:

Very interesting article from the BBC News: Mixing Covid vaccines gives good protection, study suggests

That might speed things up in Aussie, cause don't they have both and are making the AZ themselves?

It should should certainly be great for the poorer countries who could now buy from whomever is offering the cheapest at the time.

Remember Aussie also have a supply agreement with Moderna, and TGA approved this last week. Moderna wasn't due to a few months yet, but there has been recent talk of emergency supplies arriving there before hand.

Australia also approved the Janssen vaccine last week, but they currently don't have a supply agreement for that vaccine.

I read a story a few days ago about talk of people in the US who had the J&J / Janssen being given a booster jab of Pfizer, but giving a 2nd dose of Janssen may deliver simplar results.

Now we've had day 12 positive tests in the Novotel Auckland airport and stays being extended for guests.

The most obvious assumption from this would have to be spread within the property.

No, we pretty much can't do anything until August,

BUT then we need all hands to the pump.... and the public to turnout on mass to get double jabbed...

If we can get 5-6 million doses injected by end of September we will have done well, and should be on track to look at border relaxations at the end of 2021 early 2022, if we are tardy this might drag 3-4 months into 2022

Agree. With that time to drag by, there is no excuse for MoH not to have a full blown strategy ready to roll

Radio NZ - Covid-19 vaccine: People in group three upset over 'unknown' rollout timing

today

While Wellington waits to see if the region will move back down to alert level 1, there is growing frustration from some older people over the speed of the Covid-19 vaccine rollout. ...

I'm in Welly and in Group 3, and I have heard nothing yet, despite repeated inquiries.

The goal posts keep shifting.

I know the DHB's are different, but I'm group 3, hadn't heard anything so rang my local DHB (Southern) 0800 phone number and they gave me a booking.

I assume you have tried that, but if you haven't worth a shot.

I'm also Group 3 due to one health issue, I'm just waiting. CDHB

But I checked my GP's website, and some interesting info re nationwide that I wasn't aware of (possibly because I just forget about it and sit and wait) RThjis is CDHB, but re the bold

To roll out the largest vaccination programme in our history we are vaccinating people in groups, starting with those most likely to catch the virus and those most at risk of getting sick.

Our focus is on continuing to get those in Groups 1 and 2 vaccinated and those in Group 3 booked and vaccinated. Everyone in Group 3 will be invited to book their vaccination by the end of July.

From 28 July people in Group 4 will be able to register their details on Book My Vaccine (the new national booking system). Once bookings are open for each age group people will be sent an email or text letting them know it’s their turn to book. Book My Vaccine and a national booking 0800 number will be ready to use from 28 July.

When it is your turn to book an appointment, you will be contacted directly with instructions about how to book. This will be by text, email, letter or phone call.

If you’re in Group 3 and you haven’t been contacted to book your vaccination, you don’t need to do anything right now. you will be contacted when it’s your turn.  Please be patient.

Really curious to see if this is the Delta variant.

However last time we had MIQ spread, we were told that anyone released from MIQ was followed up five days later with a check-in phone call.

I note the Australians are about to bring in a post-MIQ test which is mandatory even after you've left isolation.

And going by people I know in Brisbane going off at the Federal/PM for running MiQs in hotels, in CBDs and near normal people that it was the dumbest idea and root cause.

I had to point out it kinda works here. As long as you don't have dodgy multi-role workers who think they are bullet proof looking after them.
