Random spot checks on thousands of people? I don't see how you can do that on this kind of scale.

Singapore was using Skype calls. In one case a violator had their permanent residency cancelled.

DS248: When is "midnight Sunday"?

Ambiguity is a mess. Some are saying Sunday to Monday, as "midnight Saturday" limit for cruise ships seems to be tonight.

Would be good to use appropriate time instead of these words.

Oblivian: Have a wedding next month. Number of Aussies for 2 day visit. This same 'how?' popped up.

I wish the q and a was broadcast. Despite their downside reporter's often ask these things on the spot too

Their flights will likely be cancelled so it will be academic.

Reanalyse:

Perhaps Employers who have employees away on business trips or known offshore private trips should be required to keep that employee out of the workplace for fourteen days (fined a very large amount otherwise for a H&S breach)

and schools?

Except the flight itself is outside the 16 day re-evaluation period...

It's not that clear cut and physical tin is still needed

That said, and economic downturn is expected, so a workforce could be recruited.

These measures will decrease the incoming leaks from overseas. The cost of that is inconvenience. It also will help allow NZ to be active, keep the economy active.

Less need to lockdown if we have a better lockout.

I suspect inbound travel is going to collapse very quickly.

Yip. The cancellations will take a couple of days but there will be no demand and no need to keep flying to keep slots.

Mind the exponential development - don't think in weeks ... it's hours to days. Don't point or compare to other countries, you are in the same boat - maybe a little bit more in the backward part but you are. Stay calm and expect the unevitable. It's neither the black death nor the cholera and the vast majority can cope with it. Business trips are not essential for the collective in the moment - keeping the key personnel (Medicians, Food supply, Transportation, etc.) healthy in deep contrast is. They need to be supported because they can't go to self quarantine or stay at home to take care of their kids.

I never heard this city to be so quiet by night ... there are 1.842 Million people right behind the door of my home ...

- NET: FTTH, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs, ipPBX
- SRV: 12 RU HA server cluster, 0.1 PB storage on premise
- IoT:   thread, zigbee, tasmota, BidCoS, LoRa, WX suite, IR
- 3D:    two 3D printers, 3D scanner, CNC router, laser cutter

I keep checking and my booking is still unable to be cancelled. Hopefully they'll unlock flexibility on all fares as you say after Jacinda Ardern's announcement.

Chill for a couple of day's. Three outcomes I can think of:

  • Air NZ will cancel one of more of your flights, and refund your entire booking
  • Air NZ will for goodwill unlock flexibility on the app, and allow you to cancel allowing a refund, or credit on future travel.
  • Air NZ will say tough luck the planes are still flying and that it is your choice not to be on board (assuming your ticket is not flexible), and that they are getting financially hammered so can't afford to give money away.

In the last case you would need to see if your travel insurer covers government recommendations not to travel.

Sadly such action means money might be lost, and you may be on the loosing end of it.

whats the point in saying visitors to NZ need to self isolate for 14 days? what tourist is going to come here and isolate them selves for that period? they are here for a holiday/business mostly and how many are here for 14 days anyways?

Small issue is that my travel insurer is Air New Zealand or whoever is their insurance partner.

I'll just wait and if they are unable to refund my booking I'll go anyways and see what happens.

Air New Zealand has made a few announcements: https://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/travel-alerts?eventid=zMgUsOEEeKxUdUoKnnjG

You can have your fares held in credit for up to 12 months.

Possibly a backpacker coming for a 6 month stay would be willing to do the isolation, I think the assumption is that visitor will stop coming without a formal ban being needed.

We might get some high risk people that decide it is best to escape from europe or the USA and take a 6 month holiday here too for their health's sake

I think all visitors will need to have extra strict motoring and enforcement of their isolation, perhaps a requirement to serve it in a quarantine hotel.

This does mean people on work and student visa's will be able to enter NZ which differs from the Mainland china & Iran restriction.

I imagine you will be very happy with that outcome.

Good on Air NZ for doing this, they were not obliged to do so, but their goodwill would have suffered.
