NSW to enter statewide lockdown.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/covid-19-coronavirus-statewide-lockdown-of-nsw-ordered-after-466-cases/6VLSNA6MO44BEJMMOISY2SWPDU/

I've spoken with two mates in Sydney this weekend and it sounds grim over there and no end in sight. They just don't seem to get it, one said its super busy down the beach and skate park!

They're talking about lockdowns till Xmas, because people can't simply stay home.

That doesn't sound like a lock down

Depends on how much they make in fines today

It was announced on twitter and Facebook, and not a press conf with only an hour warning. So the concensus is most people will only find there is one today through word of mouth or news (or continue ignoring and defy)

And there are distance limits of 5km central and 10k burbs. And chance you will be stopped. Which I think is new. I Still like the idea of a need for that army called in to drive it home

Oh dear. Seems it's a Change in wording to cut back the 'exercise' excuse to looking after children. No visitors unless caring for or ro avoid harm.... STILL open homes and housing is ok

Now takeaway food only.. but the rest of the list (incl lotto shops etc) largely unchanged

Retail premises are required to close, with exceptions. Supermarkets, pharmacies, service stations, banks, post offices, newsagents, laundromats and phone repair stores can stay open. Shops that mainly sell food or drink (e.g. butchers, bakeries, bottle shops), hardware and building supplies, landscaping and gardening supplies, pet supplies, stationery, or maternity and baby supplies can stay open.

“All hospitality venues must be closed to the public, including pubs, restaurants and cafes, except for takeaway,” according to NSW Health advice.

So no, it's more idle threats against mingling is the core of the order it seems.

A second follow up today says mandatory masks were considered. But dropped. And this whole thing was due request to aid enforcement. The police are deploying more, and more DF personnel. And it defines how much they can stop movement

Sigh.

Hmm, no wonder we left the door wide open to the virus last week. This just shows how abysmal our systems are for stopping the virus at our border.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/bay-of-plenty/300380947/we-really-should-be-on-top-of-this-noone-is-monitoring-vaccination-rates-at-specific-ports-in-new-zealand

Fighting the virus is just like fighting a foreign power trying to invade New Zealand. We just don't seem to get it, It's war. The border is where the virus is going to get in. We need to ensure our system makes it water tight. We need a secure Covid Passport system and a robust system for monitoring that the workers who are exposed at the border are vaccinated. Right now 18 months after the war started we have neither.

I find this astonishing. I'm not pointing the finger directly at the elected government, the officials in the various ministries should have the gumption to have this in hand, but also the relevant ministers should also be demanding such systems. Why not?

You can write rules (gudelines), but its also responsibility for people to not be pushing their exceptionalism.

Maybe someone could tell Aussie about something called 'Click and Collect'.

Darmanin previously said there have been 15 attacks on vaccination centers since July 12, with 22 health facilities overall targeted with vandalism.

The vandalism has included Nazi symbols and threats to bomb the buildings.

Just get vaccinated, less chance to get infected, if you do its far less serious, and less chance to pass it on.
For the argument, Oh I think I got Covid last year, well adding vaccination still gives you greater protection.
However maybe you did not and it was a cold, so just get vaccinated.

Vaccination Offers Higher Protection than Previous COVID-19 Infection

The study of hundreds of Kentucky residents with previous infections through June 2021 found that those who were unvaccinated had 2.34 times the odds of reinfection compared with those who were fully vaccinated.  The findings suggest that among people who have had COVID-19 previously, getting fully vaccinated provides additional protection against reinfection.

If nothing else, the record of Australia, and where NZ is at, should show the public there that if you behave, it can be sorted. If you don't behave, it will be Christmas alone. And that's very much on the cards now. Excessive flouting and Delta is a lethal combination. When the Police are now the main controls, thats says something. NSW isn't mid state Louisiana, or is it?

A bizarre statement

Gray said there were a combination of other factors that contributed to the fast spread of the virus in the state, such as low vaccination rates, high transmission within households, likely a bit of complacency and also people feeling well but unknowingly were infected and spreading the virus in the community.

A number of countries, overcame an outbreak or outbreaks, when there was no vaccine. A bit of complacency? I see that as the main cause. Yes, Delta is harder, but if you are in a proper lockdown and stay at home and wear a mask on the rare occasions when many have to leave home, (groceries, essential services, but not Bunnings) it can be contained.

Handle9: It really wouldn't take the pressure off. It would make things more fair but pressure on the facilities will only build the longer they are required. People needing to return are already being displaced by economic demands and this demand is getting greater.

I agree it won't remove a lot of the pressure, but making it fair and managing the cohort system better to minimise the wasted spaces would make more efficient use of the available capacity.

One aspect of MIQ now is that we don't even know what percentage of rooms are full. We do know that there have been nights with hundreds and hundreds of rooms free for a myriad of reasons.

What was made very clear in the review into MIQ was the failings of the current booking system and the massive disconnect between airline bookings and room bookings. If this system was more organised the reality is we'd potentially be getting hundreds of extra people through per every two 14 days. Sure this isn't perfect, but it's at least better than things at present.

It's as though MBIE simply don't want to fix things because they're still in denial that they're broken.

Could be identifying more Antibodies for Monoclonal and Polyclonal Antibody treatment ?
As below there are two approved in USA for emergency use, and arguably this saved Trump, so he could go on to...

Promised to all Americans, delivery has been more difficult, expensive to Govt, and has had to be delivered via a drip.
Regeneron has been able to test that theirs could be injected by 4 injections to make this easier.
Timing is also critical.
Has to be within a few days of infection, before secondary Covid-19 problems develop.
In worst states people are not presenting in time as well, cos of distance from a doctor or medical facility, and ...

Not sure if we have this available here.

'Like somebody gave me a happy pill': Monoclonal antibodies help Americans most at risk for COVID-19

Most importantly, he said, research has shown that the drugs are effective, helping 80% to 90% of patients who receive them to avoid hospitalization or worse.
""
The FDA also allowed in-home infusions, in which trained personnel come to the patient's home to deliver the drug.

"So now we have multiple avenues of access all allowing you to get therapy within 24 hours of thinking this is something required," said Griffin, whose health care system provides infusions in a tent next to an emergency room.

Pointing the finger at Australia with all these "you've lost it" annotations sure feels like deja vu with how we felt against America in early phase before it even got down here huh.

Most of Australia can still eliminate it. But NSW didn't learn from what NZ and other states did. They seem to be pretty much separate countries within a big land mass. I understand Delta is possible to eliminate, as a strict lockdown should be able to do it, as it starves the virus on new hosts. But there will be more flouters, and if NZ does get Delta, I believe we will have to be a lot tougher.
