Fred99: It's a shame John Clarke isn't around to see this.  He'd have been able to roll out an updated version of "the front fell off".

John Clarke and Bryan Dawe, Every Friday at the end of the Ch 9 and then ABC news. My secret thrill each week. They would be having a field day with all the Premiers and the PM.

RIP John Clarke, you will be making some deity very happy.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Sailing event given no special priorities for MIQ

Odd. Kiwi sailors, the series was created by two people, one a knighted Kiwi, and economic benefits to the region. I expect that ALL sporting, economic and cultural events from now on will be cancelled, that's what the message is. Ironic if it was in Sydney in Jan 2022

It's in Sydney on December 17-18th...

I'm not sure about "economic benefits".  So far it's been a sinkhole of public money for Chch - and at a rough estimate hardly anybody local outside of the yachting community (I'm part of) seems to have even heard about it.  Same with estimates of viewers "broadcast to" so many people, "viewed by" only a tiny fraction of that number.

Nor crankworkx Rotorua (exemption given), or the game that we just had with the lowest turn out on record that was touted to be beneficial. (There was chartered flights and ticket packs going cheap that was low demand too)

Someones books must look better than others..

Then again sailGP crews can be from hotspots also.

Being locked up in MIQ for a couple of weeks would be far less disruptive for cricket players than for the Sail GP teams who'd need to get the boats assembled and support teams in place in advance, then spend time on the water before racing. I guess the original plan was to quarantine in Aus before the event there, then travel quarantine free to NZ when the bubble was open.

Just like how the ab game was going to be economic gain.... It would have been if Aussies could have come for it. TV rights and NZR may have made on it. Not many others to warrant

Seems it was allowed just so it could happen contact wise

Anyhoo. Nsw conf will be fun

And a heap of infringements.

Now putting a vaccination nurse out front to try and encourage people about the process and dismay myths about cost and eligibility.

Increased fines for Public Health Order breaches (from 12:01am today, Monday, 16 August):

  • $5,000 on the spot fine for lying to a contact tracer (already a criminal offence)
  • $3,000 on the spot fine for breaching the two-person outdoor exercise/recreation rule
  • $3,000 on the spot fine for breaching rules around entry into regional NSW for authorised work, inspecting real estate and travelling to your second home.

Past 7 days total cases are 2732, only 1185 have been able to be linked to a known case or cluster.

It's interesting to see vaccine numbers plummet to 25,000 on Sunday. I haven't had time to look closely to see a true number, but there are quite a few centres that are closed on weekends. I know a number of people who had walk up jabs yesterday in Wellington, and from speaking to one of them they said the site had been very quiet yesterday with very few bookings. Right now every slot that goes unused is one more person that should have be vaccinated.

One of the issues that has arisen with the ramping up of locations is that when many eligible people booked 2-3 weeks ago they could only get times in mid-late September. People booking today in Wellington could actually get a jab today as the number of locations has ramped up.

Looking at the vaccine booking site one feature I think it should have is the ability to see nearby slots - right now if you want to see availability you need to click on each location individually.

If somebody wants a jab ASAP right now it'd be good to simply enter your postcode and see the availability of jabs at all nearby locations, likewise this would be be very handy for those who have booked jabs into next month who could find that changing to a much closer appointment is easy, and that they may also be able to get a location that's better suited.

As I understand it, once you need ventilation you have only about a 50% chance of survival
