MikeB4:

@FineWine may I ask some advice from a professional? When I am taking off my reusable masks I have been placing them in a zip lock bag and washing them separately in hot water and soap. If I use a disposable mask I have been placing them in a ziplock bag and when I get home I empty them into newspaper and place in the trash bin along with the ziplock bags, Is this a safe procedure for myself and the waste collectors or should I be doing things differently?

Thanks MikeB4 for this. I have added two new paragraphs to my above article.

You have basically been doing the correct stuff. With the disposable masks, seal them in a plastic bag and throw into general rubbish (at this stage).

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Putting the whole contraption in the sun for a few hours in theory would mean less rubbish and more masks.

"Can you clean a disposable mask between uses?
Yes. Medical-style disposable masks can be steamed or exposed to sunlight to kill the virus more quickly, Kumar says."

The good news is that the rest of NZ is less likely to have cases now they know where the outbreak started.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yep. Just good old Tamaki Makaurau slammed again!

Time to move MIQ out of our largest and most financially important city I think.

She said a lot. I don't want to get it wrong so I'll say read the news or someone can explain. I tend to get things wrong the first time. But something along those lines.

The tracing to date will have shown any people who travelled elsewhere in NZ by now?

not sure if they have all the information but PM says they're on to it

Dr AB just said (i think) they will have "well over 1000" people identified by the end of the day who would be "contacted"

since they now know the Date where and when the outbreak started then they can just trace from that point and can just  follow the spread which makes it easier to keep track of the virus.

No, not my point. Yet again the link appears to be MIQ in Auckland. It’s about time there was a purpose built facility outside a main centre. One that could be used to help solve the housing shortage once this is all over.

Maybe, the hotels are there empty. This wont be over. If they built a large facilitiy that could be used for housing, thats good, but the next virus, it will be needed again. At least hotels are empty in a virus pandemic but available and used when thats over. Plus this person could have been at a facility outside of a main centre, is released and goes home to Auckland. Probably made no difference
