I don't have much tolerance for being on the tail end of a long que. I have been tested once, last year. Short que. Wouldn't let me back to work without a test. I pretty much knew at the time I and everyone else up and down the country tested that day would come back negative (intermittent low daily numbers at the time).

When something crops up and everyone rushes off to the drive throughs I wouldn't even bother going out. Even if I felt a bit ill I'd just hunker down at home, self isolate, and get on the phone and let someone in authority know the facts (whatever they are, plus too ill to sit in a car in a que for six hours) and let them come to me/organise something to get me tested smartish if they felt the need. If I'm not that ill I'd still isolate but wait a few days/a week to whenever the initial rush has passed.

Ironically if the same 'Shop normal' not rushing out the night of logic was applied to testing, and people 'tested as normal' (when actually qualified to) this bumrush probably wouldn't be happening

'I've not been feeling well so figure I'd get tested...' interviews still happening in the stories about the line length complaints - How about last week or Sat/Sun/Mon when they had the option...

in the same article it says people will still be travelling home after that 3pm announcement

People will now have until 11.59pm on Friday to get home by air from Queenstown or on a Cook Strait ferry.

At this rate, they will get home in time to be out of lockdown.

"There's a genomic match to a case in MIQ, which strongly suggests this may be - or at least close to being - an index case of this cluster," ESR and Otago University virologist Dr Jemma Geoghegan said."

ok but the guy has not been near MIQ?

A lot of people seem to have got a little excited about knowing the source - yes that's great, but we still don't know how it got out of MIQ, or how patient A got infected. There are still potentially a lot of links to be uncovered yet.

Mask how-to and how-not

I do find this amusing. So not like team NSW say but don't do then?

Most the live link reporters on TVNZ1 have done similar tonight.

The policeman continued to fiddle with it in his hands.

The doctor (not pictured) was about the only one to take it off by the loops. and hang it from her fingers by them before putting it back.

Fully agree. It's clearly a leak, find out why and plug it. While the source is great, there are too many POI's to carefully trace all the contacts, use lockdown as that stops the virus today.

There are 21 cases with POI's, dating from Aug 7 but there are other cases that exist now and will be in a count in days to come or maybe not if they didn't get a test, so there are people who can spread it and we don't know their POI's, so I feel random tests are fine. 20 cases is what we know, but thats not them all

IMO

Random tests have prevented my partner from being able to make it through the queue and get tested, we're on day 3 of trying.  She's symptomatic.  And we live in one of the cluster areas (Birkenhead) and have been into the same shops, albeit outside the times.

She's been in the queue for 6 hours so far and isn't sure if she will get tested before closing time.  So I'm less happy about it.

Edited to add how long she's been in the current queue.

9 hours in the queue, and turned away just now.  3rd day of trying.  She's sick, and has been in the stores listed of places of interest on the same day but not the same times.  She's gutted.  There's a limit, this is probably it.  Our local facebook group had a bunch of people in the same queue posting snaps and saying they're not sick but just checking.

Totally gutted.
