When I heard Coromandel my first thought was originating in nearby Tauranga:

https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/126018253/more-than-85-unvaccinated-port-workers-boarded-ship-with-11-positive-covid19-cases-government-urgently-investigating

Presumably not tho or it would be a genomic link?

Get a bit tired have having to keep checking the locations of interest list.

Can they not add a date and time it was added?

There have been at least 6 updates during the day today..

Won't your tracer app tell you if you were at a place of interest automatically?

No, "Takapuna Beach Walkway / Playground"

There are many locations of interest that don't have QR codes.
Sure the bluetooth is the backup.

But reading the list and times is fail proof.

Not helpful comments from the National Party mayor of Coro:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/bay-of-plenty-times/news/covid-19-coronavirus-delta-outbreak-thames-coromandel-mayor-goudie-backtracks-on-tracer-app-comments/EQ2LS7HFOPYUPP2XGZM52YEB5Y/

I see she's now backtracked and promised to be sensible so that's good. If she turns up at your place have your credit card app ready ; )

For listing some possible sites earlier than the MIQ.
I think they are being cautious in case there is another chain of infection not having all the bits in-between.
The genomic test is a 'close match' but probably does not mean only possible match.
Perhaps another branch with a common ancestor.
Though in a interview it was said to be unlikely.
But unlikely is still possible till it is not, so listing this to be cautious.

The ship cases came from Queensland. Most of the Queensland cases originated in NSW stemming from the current outbreak.

So yes if there had been spread from that it would be the NSW variant.

I see that now, Aug 1. Errrr... Gone from Thursday last week, to 18 days. 0.o

Wonder when the admission that Case A clearly wasn't will come out.

Batman:

Locations of interest now predate the alleged link source.

So I think nobody knows

These two points were covered during the 1pm briefing today.

Essentially these early locations are there as a case(s) reported cold like symptoms around that time, and they have been included as a precautionary measure. However the CT values of all our positive cases thus far indicate that these are very acute and recent cases, and the timing does not line up, which means that these symptoms displayed on those early dates are most likely unrelated and are not Covid.

However as a precautionary measure, contacts in these locations should still follow the advice around monitoring and testing just in case.

Thus far, all indications are that Case A was not the index case (this has already been acknowledged by the PM and Bloomfield, so I assume innocent unawareness of this which was widely reported today), that our timeline is now much tighter and recent (ie no mass, uncontrolled, undetected spread for the last 2-3 weeks) and that the NSW returnee already identified is likely the index case.  Work is underway to link this together.

So essentially, could have been totally left off and look a whole lot better. If a symptomatic person ruled it out there and then like they were meant to

neb: My neighbour was at a LoI at the right time to get infected and I had dinner with them two days later...

I'm now in MIQ as a close contact. Not saying this to fish for sympathy but to point out the benefits of getting an "unnecessary" test today, you could almost hear the relief in the Healthline person's voice when I said I'd gone and got tested at day 5.

Mask how-to and how-not

Just don't get too pedantic about it. Handling a mask incorrectly is still much much better than not wearing a mask at all.

Learn how to use a chainsaw correctly first time and maybe live. Learn how to use a face mask correctly and maybe live.

There is always a right and wrong way to use equipment. One way might just save your live, the other may just kill you.

Pedantism! Tell that to the Delta variant.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

If you think the majority of people will learn how to handle mask correctly you are dreaming.

In this case perfect is the enemy of good. Pedants running around growling at people who are doing their best do far more harm than people who aren't doing things perfectly.

NZherald recent update leaves that out. And I was busy building WFH devices without a clear ear on the 1PM

Dates now back to August 1; Mall, supermarket, kindergarten added to locations of interest

"One of the locations of interest dates back to August 1 after a person who recently tested positive for Covid visited a cafe in the Auckland suburb of Hillsborough."

I think people telling you that you were testing unnecessarily and “jamming up the works” were distinctly unfair. You clearly had reason to get tested, and how many times have we been asked to get tested if there’s a reason to get one? I think you made the right decision in getting tested given your potential exposure and the circumstances around your caring for elderly; and you have been vindicated in that decision.

I do hope your test does come back negative.

Good luck. We've gone through this a few times this year. Hopefully you go through OK. Most people are don't catch it but it's always a gamble.

Are you in MIQ or home isolation?

Is this in reference to the early locations of interest being listed? They’re listed for a reason - someone who since tested positive for Covid 19 reported have cold like (covid like) symptoms when they visited that location. Our health experts believe it’s unlikely to have been Covid given other information we know. However it is prudent to ensure people who were there at the same time are aware and are able to monitor for symptoms and get tested to authoritatively rule out it being Covid-19. This is an excellent precautionary step - imagine the reaction if it came out they’d chosen not to disclose this, and it had in fact  been Covid?

The actual reality is that symptomatic person should not have been visiting cafes. We have been told (begged) repeatedly to stay home when we are sick.

That’s because the NZ Herald is a filthy rag which isn’t frankly worth the paper it’s printed on.

What they’ve stated is still factually correct - although I do think they should have added that important context given at the press conference. You could perhaps argue though that that context would make people less likely to follow the instructions around testing and isolating however, so perhaps this is a case of you can’t win either way.

Trust you got one of the 5* ones!?   Hope it works out well and the test results (today and in  5 days) are negative.
