In that case remove 80% of the posts on this thread. Even though the is media speculation is backed up my experts who assist the Govt so it seemed to be a valid point to make

Unless those experts are in the Cabinet meetings or are official Cabinet/Prime Ministers office advisors it is still speculation. Speculation muddies the water and causes public confusion and panic.

I heard from a friend that the majority of the big Auckland vaccine centres are closed, yet I have seen no official announcement or news articles. Can anyone confirm either way? thanks

Haven't seen anything official but I think they are all now open. On the news last night it featured people who had just had their vaccine shot and that was at the Henderson Vaccination Centre here in Auckland.

This is a forum for discussion, and most of it is opinions by all of us, so the majority of that should not be posted unless its verifiable by a Govt order? In fact the PM often gives opinions that are based on what they/she knows but are not yet subject to a Cabinet order yet. Its just a discussion here, thats all it is. I guess we could exclude opinions though

Oblivian: This is where the door to door checks and tests done in Victoria hotspots would be handy.

Scope devonport/north shore by burbs.

Sorry, but this fits in the same category as vaccinating people while they are in MIQ.

We simply do not have enough nurses.

I've heard from a friend in Pokeno that the police are doing the preparation works for roadblocks at Mercer and on SH2.

Auckland stays at 4, Waikato going down? Sunday night maybe (my conjecture)?

I thought we had to stay at home in L3 anyway. Surely they wont move Waikato to L2 yet?

Standing up 6 more sites today? One would have thought it more efficient to take it to the people than the people queue up.

I can somewhat understand the MiQs. They have an on hand nurse for monitoring who cant do 2 roles. And is a legal framework nightmare. But resources are currently being corralled. Just the locations differ.

I wouldn't be too concerned, I don't think the North Island at least will be going down any levels today.

3 = 4 with takeaways if I recall.

But depending on the framework used for masks etc. It may not cover, so will be a tough call to allow multiple mixed bubbles in a workplace again over and above what we have right now.

@tdgeek you were referring to Media speculation not social media chatting there is a huge difference. Media has an air of pseudo official, social media is two people chatting over coffee.

Even among our "experts" regularly referenced by media there are some very different views, and in a year of listening to these people a lot of political bias (going both ways) that has crept through as well.

Media often shop for experts to align with the angle they want their story to have.

Ok, I'll cancel the various epidemiologists from my readings

Can confirm the Mt. Wellington vaccination centre is closed. People were turning up to locked gates...

“Eight out of our thirteen community vaccination centres are operating today. The centres that are open include Manurewa, Ōtara, Henderson, Westgate, Mount Wellington, Auckland CBD, Albany and Tāmaki (Glen Innes).

“The centres that remain closed include Birkenhead, Epsom, Highbrook, Pukekohe and Takanini. These centres remain closed as we have urgently diverted staff to support the surge in testing today following the announcement of further cases and related locations of interest.

Unrelated, but there is speculation of community cases in Wellington.

NZ Herald:

The Herald understands that positive test results for Covid-19 have popped up in Wellington this morning.

It is unclear at this stage how many, and the next Ministry of Health update is due at 1pm today.

A ministry spokesperson said: “The ministry doesn’t comment on speculation. We do comment on confirmed cases and these numbers are provided each day in our 1pm statement or press conference, or as soon as practicable.”

There are actually only a handful of epidemiologists used as subject matter experts by our media. Quite a few of the people we hear from regularly have no expertise in this field or in public health.
