"RNZ understands positive cases have been confirmed in Wellington."
Edit - oops just saw comment above mine.
billgates: Yet to be confirmed but COVID has been reported in Wellington this morning as per one of my work colleagues. We will find out shortly if true.
Sounds like 2 cases. I hope they are returnee's from Auckland and have been isolating.

Damn. Probably *inevitable/expected - but damn.
*That's why we're in nationwide L4

There are actually only a handful of epidemiologists used as subject matter experts by our media. Quite a few of the people we hear from regularly have no expertise in this field or in public health.
I'm sure thats the case. Today's media speculation/opinion piece
Covid-19 NZ: Alert level decision day for Delta outbreak, experts say extension likely
Given how early it was in the cluster, Hendy suspected the Government would extend the level 4 settings nationwide, at least across the weekend, when the costs of lockdown are lower.
University of Otago epidemiologist Michael Baker agreed, saying the level 4 settings made contact tracing far easier given everyone in the country was already being told to self-isolate.
I hold these two in a high regard, but I'm happy to be corrected. As has been advised this is media speculation, not fact, nor provided by the Cabinet, so it should not be stated as it will confuse people and muddy the waters. My personal opinion is that media content supported by trusted scientists is of benefit to the public. Just as I value yours and other responses here as regards the science. Not every opinion piece/media speculation is funded by Fox news.

I wonder if this will clear things up for Mr Tong Southland Mayor

Hope so too. If escaping to get home, should be isolating as per L4, if came back from the rugby, that's a problem. I know Rugby Match 2.0 had few people there, but with Covid, seeing the AB's play live might be a rare thing for a while, so possibly a reasonable number trekked up there.

Can confirm the Mt. Wellington vaccination centre is closed. People were turning up to locked gates...
“Eight out of our thirteen community vaccination centres are operating today. The centres that are open include Manurewa, Ōtara, Henderson, Westgate, Mount Wellington, Auckland CBD, Albany and Tāmaki (Glen Innes).
Interestingly, my mother attempted to turn up at the Mt Wellington centre yesterday after receiving two texts confirming her appointment and two texts advising her appointment was cancelled. It was closed. Hopefully the announcement above confirming it is operating relates to today onwards.
as i said earlier it is not a lockdown if you let people leave Auckland for 2 days to travel home.
Common sense is not as common as you think.
The government and MoH seems to have been sitting on their hands during level 1. Now their lack of planning appears to have come to roost.
Go and get a vaccination says Ardern. Sure, get a text to say it's still on, and turn up and it's closed.
Go and get a vaccination with your kids. Sure, turn up, if the place is open, they don't have enough stock on hand to do your kids. I feel sorry for those providing vaccinations as they get the brunt of the shambles and on the fly decisions.
We are in this for a long time I suspect.

...
Just had my second jab this morning at Orewa Medical Centre. Operating at full capacity (for a GP clinic - two vaccinators working in parallel). Sort of socially distanced (chairs spaced out in the after-jab waiting area but did not quite look like the full 2m.**). Wait outside until shortly before jab. Again, some people's judgement of 2m a bit off (& one or two that did not even try). Quite a few turning up well before appointment time did not help (more crowding in the area waiting outside to get in). Biggest issue was probably that at times we had to walk past people a lot closer than 2m (at entrance door, and in after-jab waiting area, in order to get to back seats etc). (Edit: ** could possibly have been 2m, but only just if it was).
At least everyone was masked up (and not scarves etc ...!), and no one coughing.
Very little traffic on trip to & from clinic and did not notice anyone not wearing a mask, not that I was paying close attention. Compliance in the area looks pretty good

Not sure who you're referring to, but most of the experts that are regularly reported on by NZ's mainstream media do have expertise broadly specific to "epidemiology", whether they're virologists, mathematical modellers, scientists or doctors working in public health etc etc.
Some of them are better communicators than others.

Did notice one couple walk out with a young teen after their 20 mins were up ('teen' in the ~12 - 15 bracket). All three looked to have been vaccinated.

How does one look after getting vaccinated 😄

It's pragmatic though isn't it? Imagine, you've gone away for a work trip and then get told you have to stay at that place for an unknown period of time?
Who pays for the accommodation?
Who looks after your family while you're away?
It's far more practical to allow everyone to return home and then stay there.
I'd call what we have at level 4 'a real lockdown'. Compared to NSW , it's 'a real man's lockdown' (apologies to the 1960s).
