There is a new popup mass vaccination centre being opened up at Auckland Airport https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/449700/country-s-largest-drive-through-vaccination-centre-set-up-at-airport

For anybody who's had an appointment pushed out (expecially your 2nd dose because you don't have full protection until you've had that) it might be worth calling ASAP and seeing if you can get it done there.

I was just looking at the MoH vaccine schedule, I'm not sure how many doses we've actually managed to get done this week with the shutdown, but if we did hit the 246,400 we planned for it'll mean we have 809,000 of them in freezers. I guess the issue right now ramping up is that it seems pretty clear we don't have the capability to do this in Auckland due to staff shortages, but maybe we should be focussing on mass vaccinations elsewhere ASAP.

Wellington Airport now being added as a LOI. I wonder what's changed from yesterday when we were told in great detail why it wasn't?

“Wellington Airport is a location of interest linked to the Delta outbreak that has put New Zealand into lockdown, health officials confirmed.

The airport “will be added” to the growing locations of interest list, a statement from the Ministry of Health said.

It follows news that two Air New Zealand flights from Wellington to Auckland – NZ 445 from 5pm to 6pm on Sunday and NZ443 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm on Sunday – were locations of interest.”

Fred99:

Anonymous man slams contact tracers for not breaching privacy

Derp reporter George Block at Stuff devotes almost half of one sentence to explain in detail why anonymous man is screaming at the clouds.

P*ss-poor reporting - against any public interest.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300387951/absolute-shambles-auckland-contact-tracing-staff-missed-four-cases-tried-to-suppress-info

The main complaints appear to be:

  • Issues with being able to identify the contact tracer as bona fide.
  • Four other close contacts attending the same meeting weren't contacted.
  • Attempts to get him to not release info about his status as a close contact to others.

First one is a bit of an issue, hopefully some procedure around this can be sorted out. I.e. a phone number published on a government website that people can call their contact tracer back on, to verify they really are government workers.

Second one, is an obvious failing in the contact tracing process, but may not be the fault of the contact tracers (i.e. if case A could only recall two people). Still a fair criticism I think.

Third one is the contact tracers trying to keep the rumor mill from getting out of hand. As long as they kindly asked him not share the info untill the next 1pm release, rather than commanding his silence I think that is fine.

Regarding the privacy element, I think if we want close contacts to take the situation seriously, we do need to release the date / time & location of suspected contact. Means the contact can verify they were actually in that location and weren't simply contacted in error.

If that means they can deduce the indenty of the case they were a close contact to, so be it. Most close contacts (& media) will be respectful of the identities of any 3rd party cases they can deduce.

Could well be that a further interview has found more info (i.e. bathroom use, cafe purchases etc.)

Or the reasons that it wasn't previously added that public were told were false...

I have these numbers from the MoH:

Aug 20: 56,843

Aug 19: 29,917

Aug 18: 1,102*

Aug 17: 55,688

Aug 16: 46,109

*Not from MoH records, I calculated this myself based on other numbers reported by MoH.

CID is on moh. And would have been directed to it in any anticipation

They will also verify your name and contact details. These calls from the Ministry's call centre staff will usually come from (09) 801 3009 or (09) 306 8748.

Govt considering the possibility that we may not be able to eliminate this? Good on us for laughing at NSW

"Elimination is still the game plan at the moment, but the Delta variant asks some "big questions about the long-term future of what our plans are", Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says."

"We still want to try to drive Covid out as much as we can. That hasn't changed," Hipkins told Q+A this morning.

"The reality though is that a virus that can be infectious within 24 hours of someone getting it - that changes the game considerably."

You're missing that he was told to get a test and it took 9 hours waiting at an all comers test site. That may have changed I think I caught something on radio about close contacts being directed to special test sites for quicker processing.

"At some point we will have to start to be more open in the future and the Prime Minister said some of the area, a few weeks ago for us. It will include making sure that we've got very high vaccination rates, the more people that get vaccinated, then the more options we're going to have."

Thanks, I did miss that. Clearly not ideal, Blacklisted from GP's testing due to nature of contact, and massive wait times at the CBAC's. Personally I would have balked at the wait time once it was apparent I wasn't going to get seen in the first hour. (I have done that once before, and got tested at my GP the next day instead). Great that this gentleman stuck it out for 9 hours.

Good that the government has responded with special priority CBAC's for people contacted by contact tracing teams.

Don't know much about caller ID system's, but caller ID spoofing is mentioned under phone scams here... https://www.tcf.org.nz/consumers/digital-living/stay-safe-online/phone-scams/

Verification of government staff should be built into the scripts, including a government website with a phone number that can be called back if required (contact tracer can give their extension so the process is quick if the caller chooses to take this up.

People who attended a Bayleys Realty conference at Spark Arena on Friday, August 13, will no longer need to isolate.

The event, which was attended by about 1000 people, has been removed from its list as a location of interest by the Ministry of Health.

It was initially put on the list after a bar worker at the event later tested positive for the virus.

That's something I guess. At least a few thousand less people to queue up tomorrow if they see it.

And the Petrol stations and Pee stops are finally added

There seems to be a lot of confusion around the Bayley's event.  NZ Herald reported it was no longer a location of interest. This story has now disappeared.

A friend who is isolating as a result of this and has checked has confirmed the s70 notice is still in place for this event and that as a contact of somebody who was there he still has to isolate until his 5 day test result is back.

All of this poses the question of why it's no longer listed as a LOI on the website...

Hipkins had some interesting comments on Q+A this morning. Well worth watching.
