I noticed that over the past few days Simon Bridges, whom I call Mr Negativity, has been very very quiet.

Some friends of mine are very pro National. I've often said to them that Simon Bridges is possibly Labour's second biggest asset. He should really be using this to say that we will support what is being done, that we would have done it slightly differently, but embrace Labour's handling etc. I hate the style of politics of taking the opposing view purely as you're not in power. I think people would come across a lot better if it wasn't so confrontational all the time.

I agree.

He would look alot more Prime Minister like if he was supportive/acting like an adult.

Not doing this for me has the smell of playing politics at a time when we shouldnt. I fear he's not saying anything just so he can say when people complain, "Hey it was nothing to do with me"

Because ultimately if he becomes the PM, he will be the PM of all of us.

From Stuff: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/120289215/coronavirus-cruise-ship-passenger-in-akaroa-canterbury-being-tested

A passenger on a cruise ship in Akaroa, Canterbury, is being tested for the coronavirus.

Passengers on board the Golden Princess are not being allowed off the ship which arrived in Akaroa Harbour on Sunday morning.

Three passengers on board have been quarantined by the ship's doctor. One of the three has developed symptoms of COVID-19 and is being treated as a suspected case. This person will be tested on Sunday with results expected on Monday.

I fear I know the answer but...

So if I die of Covid will my life insurance pay out?

(the sound you hear is the insurance company laughing)

yes it will.

life insurance = pay out upon death. as long as you have a death certificate. suicide may depend on policy as it's intentional. most also pay out upon diagnosis of terminal illness.

It's only money - which probably isn't going to make any difference if the FSM reaches for you with his noodly tentacles.

Mary Holme (who for some reason seems to me like the Alison Holst of financial advisors) suggested on National Radio the other day to not read your kiwisaver statements for a while - throw them in the bottom drawer unopened.  Good advice probably - but when your Kiwisaver balance shows on the front page of the banking app on your phone, it might encourage you to survive on Oak brand spaghetti - instead of the good noodles.

Expect something similar here if we get more cases - this is from the UK news.

"Entire families will soon be told to self-isolate if just one of them falls ill with coronavirus symptoms, while friends and relatives of older and more vulnerable people will be asked to help "shield" them from the outbreak, it emerged last night.

The move is likely to come in the next two weeks - sooner than had been anticipated - and will signal a ramping up of measures to protect people from the spread of the virus.

It would mean parents in the affected household would have to keep their children off school.

Officials yesterday confirmed the UK had reached a total of 1,140 cases of COVID-19, with the number dying almost doubling to 21.

Government scientists had warned only last Thursday that further measures to control the spread of the disease could include stricter self-isolation arrangements, where if one household member falls ill, the entire household is asked to stay home for 14 days."

UK has been very slow, but its an event where every hour it changes.

Supposedly a person has tested positive for Covid19 in Wellington. However he was tested in Queensland and still came to NZ before the results came back:

Reynaud said he had returned to Townsville from France on Tuesday, March 10, and was not showing any signs of illness. He was tested by Queensland Health officials on Thursday because he had been abroad.

The next night he and his wife boarded a flight from Brisbane to Wellington.

Reynaud said he received a phone call on Saturday morning from his doctor confirming he had tested positive for coronavirus.

This is the reason I have been saying Australia not having a handle on things is our biggest problem. How someone can think they are fine to travel while they wait for results after being tested for a disease which is known to be asymptomatic is just staggering.

It is. No Government can stop this. Not unless they assign one babysitter per person. Its up to each and every individual to do the right thing. I have a mate who keeps telling me its pointless (to self isolate, because not everyone will) Drives me nuts. We will get more cases, and outbreaks in due course, but at least all of us can do the right thing to keep it in check.

Further, Reynaud told NZME he learned he had tested positive while having breakfast with his son at a Wellington cafe.

without any prejudice, just stating matter of factly, a multitude of people are making the jump from Aus to NZ today as we speak to avoid the quarantine. so yes we will import Covid today too.

If he'd flown in direct from France to NZ on 10 March, then he wouldn't have been tested or asked to self isolate here - unless he showed symptoms - which he didn't.

I don't think we can blame Aus - and in particular don't blame this guy who's been named.  Easy to say that what he did was unwise - but that's said with the benefit of hindsight.  Hopefully there aren't too many other cases like this in NZ - asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic.

I cannot accept that. He was in a Covid19 hotspot area overseas. He was considered a high enough risk to meet the threshold for a test in Australia. He went to another country before he knew the results.

At some point you have to stop making excuses for ignorance, and I am less inclined to be forgiving about this kind of thing given what is at stake. No hindsight needed. This was outrageously stupid.
