There are companies supposed to do contactless deliveries only but are now set up for "contactless collection". Is this acceptable?

Workplace operations at COVID-19 alert levels — business.govt.nz:

"Agricultural supply stores and pet stores cannot open but can offer contactless delivery."

I'd say the contactless collection is stretching the contactless delivery option just a tad. In one situation you have one person out and about whereas the other you have multiple people out and about with the extra risk of spreading infection.

My local PGG Wrightson was open last week in Level 4. They had a masked person at the door with barriers.. collect only for trade accounts?

Which is what was happening last time for similar businesses, e.g. hardware.

27 Different Church groups met including those travelled to it from Wellington etc.
Samoan Churches have been very good at protecting their flock, unlike some 'other' Evangelical Churches in USA mode.
Samoa having had the measles outbreak ( which we gifted them ), that experience shortly before SARS-Cov2.
Seen the danger of ineffective magic water machines and visit by Mr Kennedy from USA to spread AntiVax.
They know what is at stake and been getting masks out and vaccinated by all accounts.

So I would not mix them up with other groups like Mr TK

It seems like Wellington might be doing OK. That's good to hear.

Auckland I am less optimistic about. The wider the Delta net gets, the more likely it is to get into parts of the community that largely do not care whether they wear a mask to the supermarket or not, and also probably the exact kind of people that supermarkets don't refuse entry to out of concerns for the safety of their staff.

This is the bit I worry about. If we're not careful, it could end up as endemic.

What we really don't know is detail of the cases

 - Where did these people catch it (in the home / while out in the community)

 - Where they infectious while out in the community before isolating and being tested

Without knowing these answers it's really impossible to put these case numbers into any sort of context.

Yes, I agree.

Collect only for trade accounts is acceptable for in-trade as per above link - people need materials for emergency repairs, etc.

My example is store for pet food-only so it could be "essential" but having contactless delivery instead of collection would be safer.

Exactly . We seem to be getting far less detail than we used to get. Not helped by the media thinking that people aren't interested in watching the full press conference. Noticed that TVNZ stopped it halfway through, and went to a soap at 1:30, why TV3 kept it live until 2pm. Won't be watching TVNZ anymore for that.

But if they don't say that the cases are contacts from the home, like they did for some of the Wellington cases, then I think we can also presume they are not.

What I haven't seen much mention of, is flouting. Last time I understand the lockdown in Auckland was extended because of meetings held in lockdown. Are things like this still going on?

Quite a few people were criticising Animates late last week for offering click and collect from stores but the reality is it has to be acceptable. Animal welfare can't be treated any differently than human welfare, and delays that could occur with couriers could be unacceptable.

Besides where are people supposed to buy their ivermectin? 🤣

I went to the Pak n Save for my first trip to a supermarket since last week (had been well prepared for a lockdown).

Somebody else above mentioned supermarket staff wearing face shields - and it was there same here. Probably 25% of staff in the store wearing face shields only and no masks. I genuinely feel sorry for these people who obviously believe it's offering them the same protection as a mask when in effect it's offering none at all.

The crazy thing about the stores allowing this is that you can argue it's not even complaint with the health order. Is a face shield really a "face covering"?

I mentioned this previously. These were supermarket branded shields with the same of the supermarket along to  top of the mask  so guessing the supermarket provided them. If you see the covid testers, they wear both a face mask and a face shield. Some other supermarket workers were just wearing homemade looking patterned cloth masks, which I don't know how much protection they really give. The media should really be picking up on this. Especially as so many super market workers have had to go into isolation after their work places have become POIs

New Zealand won’t get to 90% vaccination. There is no reason to think this is feasible.

We do get to about 85-90% with childhood immunisation.

Sure. I'd expect NZ to achieve similar vaccination rates as the rest of the world. Probably in the 85% range depending on whether it's deemed sensible to vaccinate young children.

They have done that in most of the lockdowns - After the first couple of 1pm pressers,  majority of people will turn off once the first couple of questions get asked - back to work, kids are screaming etc

TVNZ carry the full Press Conference feed on their website, and live on the 1news youtube channel (that is Chromecastable, which the Website feed isn't)

Surprised there hasn't been any mention of Australias PM critising NZs approach today

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/australia/300389925/covid19-australias-pm-slams-nzs-approach-hits-back-at-state-opposition-to-covidnormal

I can't believe we were every in a bubble with these guys. But Australia does have elections coming up, and Scomo is under a huge amount of presume, hopefully he will be out. Covid all seems very political over there.

Maybe 70-80% vaccination will work in Oz, but they do have better health capacity to deal with this than NZ has, and people will die from it. But even in the UK where they have quite high levels of immunisation,  Covid is still killing about 100 people a day which is far more than the flu kills a day.

From Today's PR (24/8) It looks like all the Wellington cases were found in isolation rather than in the wild..

"Of those cases, 38 are in Auckland and three are in Wellington. All three in Wellington are known close contacts of existing cases.

These cases in Wellington were actually first identified two evenings ago but only appear in our numbers today.

All cases are being transferred or have been transferred to a quarantine facility."

The issue I have with most of the reporting internationally ( and Mr Morrison's latest outburst ) is that they don't mention that the cases being detected are likely to have occured pre lockdown - and that the lockdown will need a week or two to show if there is any impact. The insinuation ( by omission ) is that these cases are occurring in spite of the lockdown. If the lockdown doesn't work - then by all means have at us.

I don't bother watching/listening as I cannot be bothered with the superfluous waffle that goes on before there's any useful information. The whole thing could be over in 30 minutes but it drags on. I suspect the TV networks have figured out people aren't watching for as long as they used to.
