In the 1pm briefing today I heard Dr Bloomfield state as of tomorrow they will be publishing if any infected people are an essential workers and how many people were out in the community while infectious,

Be good to see this info.

Speaking of infectious in the community; I've seen a few comments slamming those classed as 'in the community while infectious' in Australia. Now I may be incorrect, but I haven't seen anything that states that 'in the community while infectious' necessarily means someone's been doing the wrong thing. If my understanding is correct, the current science seems to indicate that people are infectious up to ~2 days prior to any symptoms showing up (if any)? So, there is surely a possibility someone infectious could be out picking up groceries, etc, without yet realising they're infected. We also surely can't assume that those that are 'in the community while infectious' are part of a family/group who should be isolating, since Locations of Interest are still being added to the list daily and often not really in a timely fashion (for whatever reason). People don't know what they can't know. Just as long as when they're 'in the community while infectious', they're wearing a mask, sanitizing their hands, and scanning in!

Of course, there may also be those whom are out and about when they shouldn't be, as seen in previous lockdowns. I just don't think we should tar them all with the same brush, at least unless/until facts are known.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

staff found to be positive from routine testing, not because of symptoms (also fully vaccinated as above). we're in for the long haul?

i mean how many people are walking around with it not knowing they have this

For NSW, it appears it may be a mixture. They lump the flouters, and those that didn't know

But it also appears when contact tracers find some, it's too late and not the right precautions -  were found. Go negative. Carry on only to later go positive.

Believe we have the 5-day/12 day close contact household requirements to counter match that.

Public health director Dr Caroline McElnay has told the committee that there are three types of contacts in the latest outbreak.

There were 369 close plus contacts, 51 per cent of whom had test results, and 11 per cent were positive. There were 14,967 close contacts, 56 per cent had returned test results, and 0.2 per cent were positive. And there were 405 casual plus contacts, about half of whom were tested, with no positive results so far.

I suspect they've redefined "close contact"... 15,000 "close" contacts for 75 (rounded for ease of mental arithmetic) or so identified cases, so about 200 close contacts per infectious person. That doesn't correspond with my concept of "close". I'd guess that it must now mean "unmasked in the same room". And "close plus" mean "unmasked within 2m for several minutes", resulting in about 5 per identified case.

Close contact here has meant same room for 15 minutes. It changes from time to time as more is learnt.

Just for interest sake, what group of people do you associate with who express those views?  Are they religious nutters, woo-woo alternative health nutters, some other kind of nutters?

Where do they get the information that the vaccine "doesn't work"? Social media maybe?  My guess is yes - and I'm sure that's right - not lunatic fringe slips of paper slipped into packets of herbal tea. Fox news / Sky News?

Given that there's a massive amount of very freely available evidence that the vaccines do work, then what could the MoH possibly say that would change their minds?

Just a tip, some of these dickheads of the type you possibly know repeatedly spam MoH social media with utter BS criticism, post conspiracy theory, abject lies about vaccines, political BS.  Social media is one of the worst disasters humanity faces.

They are atheists but very business minded. They have more money than I can ever dream of. Not sure what education they have however.

I never said they are not essential. My point is that the order says contactless delivery but some shops are doing contactless collection. Very different things and delivery means less people on the roads.

What do you make of this then

I've seen numerous at-home pyramid facial care mums advertising like this tonight. (Pictured is an Auckland retail/salon - a Member of the NZ registered Beauty therapist)

'Beauty products: such as makeup' are exclusively mentioned as not essential. And when I pointed out how stupid that was - Reply - But it's moisturiser, not makeup - which is (the image I hauled them up on said "Exfoliating is essential" and advertised this at home Social Media sales)

https://www.business.govt.nz/covid-19/operating-at-alert-levels/

medicinal and hygiene products: such as medication, PPE, first aid products, soaps, shampoos, moisturisers and hand sanitisers

I read above, as one is to compliment the other. Dry alcohol hands vs moisturise. And people at home should not be out and about, or getting a already over-run/under the pump courier around for it.

In my case woo-woo crystal healing dope smokers, chiropractors and Q-anon dickheads. Basically the full spectrum of dumb dumbs.

In my case the crystal healers are the most militant about it.

The yobbos who used to live upstairs from me have been operating their amateur beer brewing 'business' during the lockdown. I was going to report them, but then I checked and discovered that it's probably technically allowed on the basis of it fitting within the food & beverage supply chain. It seems a bit loose to me.

Yeah it appears to be a 'we trust you will do the right thing by these guides' And 'please don't call us to ask what you can and can't - we're busy - But do report them so we can check!' this time around.

That was the other thing I pointed out. If retail aren't allowed to open to sell the same products. Why is the lady around the corner selling the same out her home not in a built up commercial area serviced regularly by courier suddenly differently self-classified.

It's a major issue, especially with another case tonight in a fully vaccinated person.

If I put my cynical hat on I think we've got to be grateful our vaccination numbers are so low! Trying to further vaccination numbers when there might be ~50% of cases in vaccinated people is going to be hard.

It is not farking essential. There's no reason to go out to collect crap like that.

"Amateur beer brewing" doesn't sound essential.
