snnet:

On the face of your reasoning I agree, but there will be a very very small number of people [in comparison to the vaping use statistic] who need to use vaping as a way to get off cigarettes (not to vape flavours) - do pharmacies stock this? I'm not sure... I guess they might be allowing it so those people can get it maybe

As mbie have a don't ask us - look at the rules. I'm not convince
You would expect it to be an exclusion

Gas stations sell vape products stocked by the cigarette companies. But not 3rd party import items like the vape shops do

And pharmacies have alternative nicotine replacements

Won't even mention the lithium batteries :p

Fred99: 1029 new cases in NSW. 3 deaths.
There are 698 in hospital, 113 in ICU, 43 on ventilators.

And 5 hospitals now refusing covid patient transfer's

It's hit the magic point we illuded to previously.

@shrub:

Got one of those conspiracy letters in by box today. Apparently ill be dead in 3 years after the jab.

I am surprised those conspiracy theorists didn't come up with a "the current COVID 16 wave was unleashed by the government to push people to seek vaccination," story.

Yep.  And it's going to get worse there.

For better news, Taiwan with only about 3% of the population vaccinated have got Delta cases from a peak of ~500 day, back to single digits of new cases.

68 here today, thats a good result. 37 are in-household cases as distinct from out in the community transmission. Only 3 from POI's.

I feel thats good news if half of our cases appear to be in household, rather than spread

Actually may have misheard that 13 POI, she now says only 13 POI's have generated transmission

Seems to be levelling off. Great news. More concerned about the post-lockdown exposures in Massey which sound like they could be related to the Saturday morning sport at which Massey High was present at another school for, but I'd be guessing.

The deadsh*t factor may come into effect though, if Massey LOIs start generating their own transmission chains.

KrazyKid:

Pfizer are stating that a 3rd booster shot gives up to 3.3x level of antibodies. Seems study was of 306 people andis about to be published very soon.

J&J is reporting a 3rd jab gives a 9 fold increase.

Looks like Boosters are going to be the way we are end up.

That should be 2nd jab for J&J

Stupid thing about their vaccine is it's increasingly clear now it was always a 2 dose vaccine that they managed to get approved as a single dose.

I think that's more or less what she said, but probably meant to - or could have said:  "known so far to have generated transmission".

Should we be worried about the positive detection of Covid in the sewage catchment in Christchurch? Last detection was 3 week before. Now it's 2 days in row.

I think the FDA had indicated that an efficacy of >60% (?) was cut-off point for issuing an EUA (along with other safety data etc), so they sneaked in with one dose.

Pre-delta, it might have just been good enough, though based on an optimistic and never proven concept of achieving "herd immunity" by vaccination in the midst of a pandemic.

We have 1 downstream testing and processing facility.

Unless they start sampling untreated at the junction points it will always include those at the airport or other facilities holding positives. We have 3 border cases currently

(Sounds like wider point testing is happening today)

Mild panic here :-).. There is MIQ here. I'm not sure if thats the explanation, case closed, or if they are still working on it.

First supermarket worker to test positive but it seems they were working during a night fill so not exposed to customers.

Just shows how stupid it is that supermarket staff are allowed to wear face shields and no masks which is leaving customers exposed.

There are a few MIQ facilities in Christchurch and I'm literally 900M away from one of them.

I am far from mild panicking here :(
