IMO,  that area probably now shouldn't drop to level 3, as Northland was delayed due to having a case.

It is a corrections officer, from Auckland, who had been at a LoI. He is fully vaccinated, and the prison was in Full L4 mode, so low risk to transfer in to the public

“Last night (Monday) we were advised that a staff member at Spring Hill Corrections Facility tested positive for COVID-19,” he wrote. “The staff member is fully vaccinated, and has not displayed any symptoms. It is important to note that no other site is impacted at the moment.”

The guard, who lives in Auckland, “worked at the prison during the day on Saturday, and that evening was advised that he had a link to a location of interest. He was tested on Sunday and has been isolating since.”

But i guess it will come down to any LoIs of his being outside Auckland, and if something odd shows up

I imagine they will be keeping any eye on that, and will move waikato back to L4 sharply if necessary

Clint

they knew about it yesterday so if they thought there was any danger to the greater Waikato they would moved on it already. He lives in Auckland , was infected in Auckland and by the sound of it he went straight to work and then home to Auckland

Common sense is not as common as you think.

City not Townships ! ;-p

Cheers. I didnt realise we had so many in the North Island. Just 1 in the SI.

Would it have made some sense to have one border entry and a larger number of MIQs spread in rural areas of that border entry?

Along with extending MIQ to 3 weeks and closed the Aus/NZ border 3 weeks ago (ie we need to start being proactive not reactive).

Not that many Novotels next to farms, well away from the city. Or do you mean spreading MIQ's all over the place?

Interesting news c12 variant has close to double the mutation speed than any other variant including delta. Also a bit worrying. Have we had any cases in NZ in the past?

Just another quick question on masks, Ive seen others with some that easily go from the top of bridge of the nose and securely sit under the chin. My cloth one from the pharmacy just fits slides down too easily or doesnt fit under the chin.

If somebody could point me to a reliable place to buy such a mask? I would appreciate it very much.

Just like my dive masks there is no such 1 size fits all but at same time I do not want to buy 10 masks before finding one that fits over the chin. Thanks

I really would have prefered a 4 seasons myself ;-p

Yeah I meant like perhaps say Hamilton as an entry and multiple MIQs around neighboring easily accessible rural areas that small cities like Hams and CCH have within close proximity. Welli might be a better choice, I dunno about which border, but it would be preferable to have easy access to rural areas.

random MS news actually haha. not so much scary, more interesting.

That Korean virologist on youtube is fantastic, breaks down facts and fiction, i tend to stick with his international perspective.

I guess the only concern with c12 is if it mutates that fast its only a matter of time before it finds a way to be the best and fairest covid yet. But I agree, at this stage, especially when we dont have community cases, if that is in the herald, its a bit of a beat up for a NZ perspective.

Yes but if others have been infected by this case, then they may live in the waikato or elsewhere. I doubt all the other staff who are close contacts also live in Auckland.

Now the nats are complaining that they have to sit 5 metres away from each other.

But I think it's just political games being played -- the alternative is to have them sitting less than a metre apart, since Parliament has seats in pairs. Now that they've forced Parliament to be a physical rather than electronic forum, they're just setting out to make more difficulties for no reason other than to distract the Government from actual important matters, in the hope they'll make mistakes. Which is pretty damn reckless IMHO.

I say that anyone stupid enough to sit unmasked next to someone whose covid status is unknown should be allowed, nay encouraged, to do so. That some number of Nats is in this group is no surprise. But of course they shouldn't be allowed out in public.

I don't think so. You have the problem of transporting people of unknown covid status from the airport to the MIQ safely. And of course the driver, albeit masked, in that enclosed space with them for a couple of hours. Not a job I'd want, or want for any of my family members, thanks very much. Also, an accident along the way would suddenly become a potential covid outbreak. Another logistical issue example... at Matamata airfield there are a number of Portaloos: covid transportees, Auckland/Rotorua, for the use of. I think they're fenced off from general public access, but don't recall how securely.

Apparently it sounded like it was a non event today, and  could have easily been done virtually on zoom. I just can't understand when people aren't allowed to even go to funerals, that this would have been considered acceptable when more than suitable online alternatives were available.
