Singing, where everyone is singing enmass apparently expels a lot of vapour in droplets according to Prof Baker. Plus a lot of the people would know one another etc. Also very closely packed in rows. Whereas a dinner event maybe more spaced out with tables. Nightclubs not everyone knows one another,  maybe a lot of people heavy breathing.

The levels IMO really needed adjusting months ago when Delta became such a threat.

Sure, I just felt the original comment was pretty unfair.

What does everyone expect the policy to be next year once NZ has hit its effective 100% mark of vaccination?

I see various opinions on this including still having strict limitations on travel etc? But if everyone has just been vaxxed, isn't that the best time to open? Even if it does result in infections they should be mild and it will build herd immunity - which at the moment seems like the only long term solution until the anti-virals get approved.

Probably already mentioned but well done to the Govt fixing the issue of vaccine availability/access in Auck !!!

As an example my closest centre was out to Nov, now has a plethora of slots as of 3 days. The extra drive through out west may not be as long a queue now, nor will a 2 hour drive be required by those with no local (within 30km) availability. My friend (pharmacy owner) told me they will be audited as of lvl3 (many planned vax centres caught out by the lockdown). So accessibility and availability should be evenly spread for all now.

My n95 mask is out of bight better fit than the washable one, not a single gap, it does move in and out with breath (not hard even with breathing issues, my experience with mine anyway). Masks/mask wearing being a critical part of our countries way forward, no excuse for people not to have a quality one with a tight fit given plenty available. I see Jacinda wearing a local made MEO mask (that take the filters etc). Not sure what they cost, but buying NZ made has never been more important. I have a stack of filters. I saw a guy at the supermarket today wearing a tradie type ventilator style mask, he looked like a storm trooper :-). Are these masks actually suitable for Covid protection? Not sure what size aerosols they can filter....

The Alpha lockdowns in Aucks felt very different to the current Delta wave. I 'think' we are getting on top of it. Without getting ahead of ourselves, I just hope we have learnt even more lessons for future, potentially far more contagious and aggressive variants as the virus continues to mutate. Our strategy will buy the time to get ahead of the virus for future vac boosters addressing new variants etc. The best thing is wherever you are in NZ the policy keeps us all safe, without having a Fed/State poli system which we see destroying the call to action in some countries.

I expect Limitations on International Travel will required to be vaccinated, Some jobs will require vaccinations, eg Nurses in care homes. Early 2022 Possible jumps to level 2-3.

2023 Once everyone had there chance of vaccination, it will become personal responsibility / survival of the fittest.

People complaining about the proposed Level 2-plus restrictions need to look at it context, this appears to be proposed as an alternative to some regions staying at Level 3.

Perhaps I need to read all the interviews again, but I don't think anyone is suggesting that we stay at Level 2-plus forever.

Meanwhile the US is back to averaging 1000+ deaths a day.

Depending on choice of cartridge they could easily beat any disposable filtering in. The poblem would be the expiration valve that bypasses any filtering breathing out.

They can offer great protection for the wearer, but like regular N95 masks with one way valves for comfort allow you to spread all your Covid to everybody else if you're infected.

Somebody has just created a brilliant site to deliver basic functionality missing from the bookmyvaccine site - vaxx.nz

It lets you select your location and shows date availability nearby - and once you click on the date it shows the location. This saves having to click on every location to see availability. You then get taken through to the bookmyvaccine site for bookings.

Why this wasn't included as basic functionality in the bookmyvaccine site is beyond me, and I know it's something we chatted about many hundreds of pages back!

Lets just hope the MoH don't go breaking it...

How long it's taking to adjust the MiQ booking system, it undoubtedly won't break anytime soon :)

Someone made a bot that tweeted new LOIs as the MOH updated them because their chart was initially so hard to use and see what had been added recently, considering the dates and times were all over the place as new-but-old LOIs were added.

Then when they tried to improve the chart, it broke the infinitely-more useful Twitter bot.

Eventually the person running it gave up, but it was such an effective way to get LOIs out - we just followed the account and turned on notifications for it.

Oh dear.

Man tests positive in Middlemore surgical ward:

https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/major-stuff-up-patient-in-middlemore-surgical-ward-tests-positive-covid-19

And the path of this patent, from admission right through the building.  Ambulance, or Doctor where he originated.

Would be expecting highly vigilant triage given cases are in community and symptoms a match !

I was thinking even a rapid test would filter out worst, until a PCR, but still you would isolate anyone with symptoms.

Hopefully we are very lucky and don't have those passing in lift or hallway infections.

As well as the probability that he's spread it in the hospital, where did this case come from in the community?

If random and apparently unconnected to other cases then we've got a problem, if already connected to the known cluster(s) then we've also got a problem.

Staff dealing with him are claimed to have been wearing PPE, but bunging him in to a shared ward with other patients while they were waiting for his covid PCR test results seems so crazy it's almost unbelievable.

When I read the article last night, it was very much anecdotal, maybe people have just exaggerated and this whole debacle never happened at all, in the morning I'd wake up and the entire story had vanished, like a nightmare or a miracle or whatever.

The vaxx.nz site shows up some glaring abnormalities when you start looking at different places around NZ.

Here in Wellington there is significant availability every day this week at the Pipitea Marae / Capital Gateway site - right now 70 slots are free today. If you look at Christchurch there at two days between now and the end of October that have availability - and that is a single booking on each of those days.
