heavenlywild: Unfortunately, with random cases popping up, I'm guessing it's either going to go on for weeks and weeks, or it's still being leaked from MiQ as per today's news of an MiQ worker catching it on Monday.

If I were the PM, and knowing we can't lockdown forever, I would day by x date, get fully vaccinated because we are removing all restrictions.

Yes, we don't want people to die. But we can't let businesses and livelihoods go bust and hence the country.

I think this method may motivate even higher rates of people getting vaccinated.

Totally agree. Keep us lockdown until 31st October, after that day if you can’t be bothered to be vaccinated, then bad luck.

We can’t keep killing people’s livelihoods and mental well-being while a number accept they don’t need the vaccine because we’ll lockdown to save my life.

At some point very soon it is going to have to be a personal responsibility to protect oneself from catching it.

MoH release is a little more in depth than the media interpretation of it

Cases infectious in the community: Eight (72.7%) of yesterday’s 11 cases have exposure events
Cases in isolation throughout the period they were infected: three (27.3%) of yesterday’s 11 cases
Cases epidemiologically linked: 14 of today’s cases
Cases to be epidemiologically linked: Nine of today’s cases

And there are 9, unlinked sub clusters

The challenge is the unlinked cases that are increasing the tally as each day goes by. Yes, some will be eventually linked but it seems the unlinked cases are on a steady rise, now 36.

Did the worker catch it in the community? or catch it from MIQ? at the time you were probably more likely to get it in the community.

I probably give no more of a %$*# about the fate of most moron antivaxxers than you do.

But what you're suggesting as bad luck won't be to them - it'll be to the elderly, to cancer patients, to transplant patients, to people taking immuno-suppressive drugs etc.

I suppose it's possible - despite the message being given clearly for well over a year - that facts like that haven't sunk in.

Vaccinating as close to everybody as possible before opening up is the only morally acceptable way out of this.

So instead of constant whining - get with / support the program.

31 October isn’t even long enough. I’m in my late 30s and booked my vaccine as soon as I could. My second dose isn’t scheduled to be effective until around November 14. Many will probably be even later on, and what, to hell with the under 12s? Sorry kids, you’re on your own, lol, you’d never be able to buy a house anyway.

I would suggest you rebook your first vaccine then as there is increased capacity now and there are appts free around Auckland tomorrow still.

Considering the Auckland Regional Public Health Service have decided to focus their attention away from this person's work location, that would certainly suggest the former.

I’ve had it. I rebooked twice to bring it forward. Second dose in 6 weeks, maximally effective 2 weeks after that.

You should rebook your first and second doses. The only reason the gap was pushed out to 6 weeks was to get more first does done - and with no shortage of vaccines and no shortage of vaccine booking slots it makes zero sense to be waiting around for weeks with only partial protection.

They can't do that because NZs health system would collapse. It is alreadystruggling with just a relatively small number of cases. NZ is far more vulnerable to this than almost every other country in the OECD due to having the second lowest ICU beds per capita. They have already suggested that level 4 may need to be made more strict if cases don't drop back. This level 4 IMO doesn't seem as strict as last years, with more businesses who seem to think they are essential. Also how many people are flouting the rules.

Part of the problem is there is a lack of information and details on how cases are occurring. Could some be occurring in apartments with poor air conditioning?

Last time I tried there were no closer appointments. I’m not the issue anyway, I can F5 the booking site as much as I like. Many others won’t, which was my point, in regard to throwing open the COVID floodgates.

A couple of quite interesting things I read and watched today -

First up the weekly CDC report which has some pretty revealing data showing Pfizer vs Moderns vs Janssen performance. It really does show how superior Moderna is against Delta - 95% effectiveness against hospitalisation for Moderna, 80% for Pfizer, and 65% for Janssen over the June - August period. So much recent data is really showing that Pfizer is certainly not the gold standard vaccine we were once lead to believe it was. This really is starting to show flaws in NZ's strategy of only opting for a single vaccine because everybody is now exposed in the same way to the shortcomings.

Second is a great ABC Australia documentary about how they lost the battle against Delta, something that should be a wakeup call for those in NZ who are just assuming we are going to beat it here and be back to zero cases in the next few weeks https://youtu.be/M9MPXCpyCnY

It can be beaten but things may need to change. Delta looks like it needs a level 4.5 in Auckland. The problem is that we aren't getting the full detailed story imo
