So vaccinated workers from other countries can come in but skip MIQ, but anyone from Auckland has to meet the same rules as international arrivals with a negative test within three days to cross a border within the country.

Madness.

I'm going to assume you are talking about the RSE workers, in which case you'd be talking about workers from a country that has no history of covid, that are required to be at least partially vaccinated and will be isolated at their place of employment until they have produced both a day 0 and day 5 negative test?

Vs Aucklanders, who have covid circulating in the community, and we'd rather not have them circulating it around the country on their cute trips to Wanaka?

Oh yes, madness. /S

Ah yes, of course, the only reason Aucklanders want a firm indication as to how we get out of what will be six weeks of lockdown is because we all want to go on "cute trips to Wanaka".

In that context, yes, fully vaccinated Aucklanders who are unable to see family or loved ones could understandably be a little miffed about how it's easier to fly into a country than it is for them to move around it, so spare me your sarcasm.

I think you're missing the crux of why they are able to do this - they don't have covid where they are coming from. Auckland does.

And Auckland is likely to have cases on an ongoing basis, as has been already stated - we're not waiting for zeros to move down alert levels, so that's unlikely to change.

You're correct and ack, my sarcasm probably wasn't warranted.

I can fly from Wellington to Christchurch without getting tested, so to me, flying from covid-free Vanuatu isn't a variation on that - you can come and go from the Chatom Islands right now without a test too. The fact the government hasn't openly announced exactly what the criteria for moving down levels in Auckland will actually be is the piece that is probably madness to be fair, but then that's also coming very close to a politics line.

Seems Tauranga has positive wastewater - no discussion of recovering MIQ returnees or people isolation, blanket 'get a test if you have symptoms'

Yes, probably too much so for this thread - and perhaps more suited for the mental health thread, it's getting very hard to get this close to a looming decision without a firm idea of whether we're on the right track or not, when the consequences for us not being there on Monday would likely be yet another two weeks.

I suspect if you were aspiring to return to NZ through MIQ and had been living a relatively normal, fully vaccinated life overseas, you might have different reasons for being unimpressed with RSE workers being able to get through without facing the same hurdles as you do - although I note the timing of the announcement of yet more MIQ slots today.

I guess they need to check the movements of Auckland MIQ people? I assume clean tested MIQ returnees can go to Tauranga from Auckland in level 4/3?

I'd assume so, I haven't seen the press conference but I didn't see returning MIQ travellers as a potential source like they usually do. That might be to help drive uptake in testing though so it could be deliberate.

Of yesterday's cases, 6 in isolation and, 6 not isolated but only 5 of the 6 had exposure events.

Not big numbers, but still showing the contact tracers can't get ahead of exposures.

Does anyone know what wastewater testing actually involves? There was that truck driver a couple of weeks ago, and if the testing is at e.g. oxidation ponds then it could be a result from him, as the water presumably sits there for a while. But if it's 'flowing' water then it's probably someone else.

Cases detected in Aucklands City Mission customers.  Contact tracing not possible.  Plus positive case in Middlemore ED today.  Ugh not great. (source: a nurse)
