Why is it not level 4? What happened to 'go hard'?

There's no evidence of community transmission.  I don't expect they would anyway, but at this point in time I reckon that there might be a surprisingly strong community response in Northland against L3 flouters.

L3 is stay home. If you are up there and this happened, you will stay home if you know what's best for you

Grapevine working overtime tonight, friend of a friend shit so extreme grains of salt but supposedly concerns about a Wellington case.

Whether it's true or not, it does raise an interesting question: Even though Welly is high vaxxed, it's the gateway to/from the South AND it's school holidays in the non-L3 bits of NZ.

What would you do?

Of course it was probably a gangster on a meth delivery run.  Doesn't need to be said. You *know that, I know that, everybody knows that.  Minister says or implies that - then there's a problem.

*know = suspect, whatever.

It was (or should I say "rumoured") to be a sex worker. This has been rumored for several days.

(And before anybody jumps on posting this as a "rumour" - it was run on RNZ Checkpoint earlier as "unconfirmed")

Wellington as a region isn't highly vaxxed - sure the Wellington CBD has very high update of the first dose, but 2nd dose isn't that high. We also seemed to be a city obsessed by pushing 2nd jabs waaaaaay out (I know several people who were opting for 8-10 weeks), so it'll be interesting to see how many people try to bring these forward to 3 weeks, and the availability to do so.

Maybe the confirmation process will turn up negative and there'll be nothing to talk about. Fingers crossed that is the case here.

But yea, as you point out, having some bits of the country wayyyy more vaccinated than the other doesn't make anything any easier. If Wellington gets some community spread then it would be in the South Island within days.

mattwnz: Why can't they name the person, so other people can fill in the gaps in their travel?

do you think their friends and or family will be any more cooperative?

Privacy regarding Covid infractions + infections tends to vary case to case. Some cases are more public than others.

Have they not named some other flouters who left Auckland when they shouldn't have? I think it is pretty damn important as it is a major public health issue in a very vulnerable area and could directly lead to deaths occurring. In some ways I am surprised they didn't go into level 4 due to the lack of info and POIs and the low vax uptake.

And I hope they get the book thrown at them hard.

They wont sadly.

NZ is soooo soft on crime, even if it means they person could potentially create a major cluster.

Look at the graph head upward right on queue from when we had it down to 9 cases. Coronavirus statistics

On the positive side, vaxx uptake graph is still heading north which is good  Coronavirus vaccination trend in New Zealand

Throw the rapantigen and saliva tests in there and Im still confident even if case numbers triple that Auckland has things under control. I do wonder what the breaking point for contact tracing will be, I assume it will be a staffing one, should provide more jobs, unless somebody codes somebody/all out of a job. Not sure how feasible an AI tracker is for the nuance of some cases.

Yes, that one was very exciting, but in typical NZ being in its own world, what was said to be a "high profile" person turned out to be a judges son and his mrs, pretty normal profile for an Aucklander. But not sure why that was released so quickly vs the aforementioned case.

What would you do?

Do? Personally? Aside from get vaxxed and wear a mask. Nothing. Live life as per normal.

Even if Moderna has better efficacy and less wane against Delta, both show to be very effective against hospitlisation. The theory being the viral load of Moderna etc, but in theory wearing a mask, with an immune system trained to fight the virus even with a break through infection, which is still pretty low chance initially with pfizer, wearing a mask in theory should lower viral load so in theory you should have a very good chance of not having a major breakthrough infection. And there you have another training of the immune system :-). Not forgetting boosters, potentially with Delta variant base, in time.

I truly dont tend to see Modernas thoughts that this pandemic will be under control by next year as just hype. Wear a mask, stay safe for 8-12 months and the world will hopefully be back to semi normal state of affairs. whoopa :-)

I suspect "normal" was always an unsustainable abnormal. We're back to the real normal of human history now.

Masks. Distance. Avoid large gatherings with people you don't know. More limited travel. Annual vaccinations....and the virus and its variants waiting to pick off the vulnerable. .

Well there is that. Perhaps the fact music has been on an 80s loop since 2000ish is a sign of what you suggest ;-p

It had to happen, how it happened is a topic for another time, but we were over due. I think officially spanish flu was last seen technically in 1957, but we have the seasonal flu jabs.......

I see covid heading a similar path. Unless this talk but some who seem to think a 1 off vax is possible, actually occurs. But if that is really within our capabilities, I doubt it will come from big pharma. More likely one of the non for profit groups. At this stage its still fiction.

The way you described our future sounded exciting, like a movie, like its blade runner or something hehe :-)

A bit of covid surrealism always lifts the spirits. I forget how long we have been in lock down now.....

Apparently Cook Islands is now fully vaccinated, and at an amount higher than 96 percent of eligible adults which is far higher than NZ will likely get up to. Yet they aren't ready to open up and live with the virus even though they rely on tourists.

did they predict that?

it's possible. when countries open up everybody gets exposed and those who remain alive after 12 months will carry on like normal. it's possible?

watch what happens to countries that open up, then we will know.
