https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-auckland-and-waikato-to-stay-in-level-3-northland-to-move-to-level-2-jacinda-ardern/WTL4OXINDL4LRSPKYR6NKDK544/

She could not say exactly how long Auckland would be at level 3 before restrictions eased further.

she could not ask people to live week by week without knowing what restrictions they would face. On Friday, she would set out the new system for dealing with Covid-19.

The new framework would include a vaccination target before it came into effect, and that would be based on international experience.

The vaccination target would be very high, she said.

Ardern said the future framework would include vaccination passes.

Ardern said work was underway on Auckland's boundaries to assess whether or not more movement could be allowed and at what point. "We have to be sure whatever we do isn't posing to risk to other parts of the country."

This is really concerning.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/kahu/covid-19-delta-outbreak-murupara-doesnt-want-pfizer-vaccine-kaumatua-says/Q6AG522GP3HNNTTP7NXQNIQJ3E/

I don't think he has the luxury of waiting for a 'better' vaccine, the people of Murupara definitely deserve better GP's though. The article refers to another GP in the town who is being investigated by the medical council for anti Vax facebook posts.

16% fully vaccinated in Murupara, doesn't bode well for an outbreak given the demographics of the area.

Its not like this person is old and in a very vulnerable category where vaccination is urgent ?

It is a classic antivax delay and deflect argument, encourage people to delay to a vaccine thats not available.
Later you will find reasons its not good enough. Rinse and Repeat.

Maybe you don't like the limited data that later vaccines will have, the adjuvant, the lipid, so awaiting perfection.
You can also bask in the glow of not being antivax while you are.

To say vaccines that have been given in billions of doses don't have enough data is ridiculous.
You also have data over a long time, coming up for a year.

Your infection risk is now, the effect of Covid on you as unvaccinated is now, later may be too late.
The contribution or not to community is now as well.

This might be the worst (best) example in New Zealand but sadly I bet there's plenty of other similar communities around.

How do you get through to these people? That doctor should be tried for malpractice.

Just the tip of that particular iceberg I fear.

Looks like they're finally taking that ridiculous party at the weekend seriously:

The lady who cuts my hair had a client recently who was not getting vaccinated because she was convinced the government was only doing it to stop people claiming superannuation......

You cannot get through to these people. Sooner or later they must be left to the consequences of their actions. They cannot hold everyone else back with their medieval idiocy.

If vaccinations rates could be lifted even 2% by offering alternative vaccines then why not (yes logistics are harder but it was always known to get the tail end would require more work)?

One of my friends who works in healthcare got a really bad reaction to the first dose (fainted) and now refuses a second dose.

Actually come to think about it, I never put 2 and 2 together but I was severely sick after the first dose too - in bed for 2 days and off work for 3-4 days. Just presumed I was already getting sick before the vaccine but maybe it was indeed the vaccine... started later on the same day I got jabbed. No issues with 2nd dose though...

I felt right off after first jab as well. Was really tired, a horrible Headache, slight pain in left side of jaw when chewing. Started about 5 hours after jab, felt worse next day and the day after everything came right.

Second jab, nothing first day, had a slight headache following day and that was it. Was hesitant with second jab after first jab, but it turned out no where near as bad.

There’s nothing particularly unusual about getting a reaction to a vaccine. It’s certainly not specific to Pfizer either. I got a really bad reaction to my first AZ shot. I was good after 36 hours but it wasn’t great.

I’m still bloody glad to be vaccinated.

there's a lot in here. everything that we've called for the last 2-3 months.

though nothing's been announced, so it could be a while or it could be friday.

It's, at the very least, a nod to the fact that some of the things that we've been talking about giving greater clarity about the future.

No one has asked Ardern to snap her fingers and make the virus go away, but short of that, we've been in the dark about the way forward - we've got a better idea of how home isolation and the future of MIQ is going to work than the roadmap for dealing with the problems within our own borders.

I'm glad that sounds like it's about to change.
