Batman:

i keep saying the dole looks very attractive https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-vaccine-mandate-quarter-of-early-childcare-workers-surveyed-say-theyre-very-likely-to-leave/YXTPJJ35QMX6SQO4FRMRYC65SQ/

Not entirely sure I want people who won't take a vaccine looking after my kids anyway.

I'd hope they don't have similar views on First Aid.

Midwives who co-opt slogans like 'pro-choice' for their own anti-science personal crusades should be struck off as a point of principal.

What a mindblowing lack of self-awareness.

except that they have not changed, this is them since forever. why suddenly strike them off. if they resign that's their choice but striking them off all of a sudden seems a bit harsh.

like many facets of society this is deep seated, generational.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-positive-waiheke-island-case-travelled-by-ferry-isolating-at-their-home/3NYFACENGALOR7PLMXBMVSS2TY/

There seems to be a massive amount of NIMBY faux outrage at the home isolation that is occuring.

I wonder how these people are all going to cope when (as expected) on Friday the govt announce a large expansion of home quarantine before Xmas for inbound international arrivals? There will probably be a lot of these people heading straight to Waiheke!

The simple reality right now is that somebody double vaxxed arriving into Auckland after a PCR test, possibly a rapid test before getting on a plane, followed by a rapid test on arrival here and then a day 2 PCR poses very mimimal risk to the community compared to the 50 odd people per day who are out and about in the community while infectious.

Friday's announcements are going to be interesting, because there are going to be a lot of people who will disagree with some of the things that are very clearly going to be announced, especially when it was only a few weeks ago that the govt were trashing many of the very same ideas when National proposed them.

It's ironic that an industry that has so many rules and requirements around immunisation (most follow govt vaccine register requirements rules and force vaccines before kids can be accepted) has so many people that say they're anti the rules.

I'd say most of these people are full of it. Let them go if they're so worried, because it's pretty clear now that your life as an anti vaxxer will be pretty tough in the next few years, and you're certainly not going to be able to just leave NZ to get away from the rules.

It will take a bit of gumption for the various industries to stand up to the anti-vaxxers. They ofcourse will be pushing the "my body my choice and you can't force me to vaccinate" message, but their choice comes with potential consequences. They will cry out "we are being discriminated against", but is it really discrimination if their choices have put them in that position?

I get that by being vaccinated, we are somewhat protected against catching / spreading / suffering severe consequences of the virus, but the risk still isn't nil.

Do the rights of those that choose to be vaccinated trump the rights of those that choose not to be?

Can't they offer services as a private contract? Between two parties. To me I couldn't care less if a midwife, physio or tradie, home teacher was unvaccinated. If the price is right. Maybe they will undercut the vaccinated to get work.

Unless the govt mandates the vaccinated can't do private business with the unvaccinated.

Maybe a car analogy? We know how good those are!

I choose to drive by the road rules, that is safer, and I wish to have other drivers around me doing the same. But if some drivers can make their own rules without penalty, that affects my safety. I still get the benefits of my safe driving, but why should I have to be exposed to others?

you are not paying the midwife a cent, the govt is paying the midwife, and they are all private contractors to begin with (the ones that are not working in a hospital as dhb staff - those are employees - they don't 'follow' pregnant women, they work in the hospital as part of hospital staff)
