People seem to be under the impression the virus will 'respect' them or their decision to not get jabbed.

All they're doing is furthering the spread of it in communities they claim to care about.

Talk is cheap etc.

Dingbatt:

And by the way, what’s happened to Levels 3.2 and 3.3 for Auckland when it’s reached 90% first jabs? Now who was it that said that?

Even the govt seems confused about whether this order is still in effect and could happen (technically it still can) because there are now three different alert level systems in play.

Isn't Rotorua Level 2 and SI Level 2? Whats the difference travelling from Rotorua to Blenheim, or Rotorua to Kapiti or Christchurch to Dunedin?

It says they travelled from Waikato to Rotorua. So they travelled from a L3 area to L2 areas

The person travelled from Waikato to Blenheim which was illegal unless they had an exemption, and there has been zero mention of whether this was the case.

We've seemingly moved on from the early days of naming and shaming and extreme outrage at those breaking the rules, it really shows how nobody cares about the current rules any longer.

Geektastic: "Sir Dave Dobbyn reveals vaccination views"

Thank heaven! At last. I've been on tenterhooks. Why did he wait so long. Stunning and brave. Etc

Yeah, I believe thousands of vac-relucters have been waiting, like you, for him to come out and make his call. Now they'll all flock to the jab-centre. Job's a good 'un.

Seriously though, the more that well-known people lend support like this, the better. Doesn't do any harm - it's only the silly way it's reported that gets up the nose.

I'm guessing you both missed the whole Dave Dobbyn story on Saturday and why this was newsworthy yesterday. On Saturday he got cancelled online for expressing his views.

He's somebody who is fully vaccinated but expressed issues about continued lockdowns so got cancelled by the NZ left wing Twitteratti and then deleted his account rather than putting up with the abuse.

The "waiting for Novavax" is an excuse given by antivaxxers.

If/when Novavax is here they will wait for something else.

They should really call their bluff by getting some in somehow and invite them to come on down for a dose.

Most of these people aren't even smart enough (or maybe they are, hence the reason they want Novavax) to realise it'll be a miracle of anybody ever gets a Novavax jab outside their trials. They take being dysfunctional to new levels, and even now have the threat of class actions against them from shareholders.

For a vaccine with so much potential the only thing they may end up delivering is disappointment. (And once again I say this as somebody who was an early believer in their vaccine, and own quite a significant number of shares).

What's your understanding of "cancelled"? Someone that is being criticised is not being "cancelled". Someone that is being asked to support their argument is not being "cancelled".

My view is that he lost it when he claimed "Marxism". He obviously has no idea what Marxism ideology is but the best shot was to call "communism" like the right is doing in the USA and how this seems to be going to other countries.

That's what I tried to explain to her, that the virus doesn't care about that sort of thing, all it's looking for now is people who are not vaccinated...not sure if she got my message though.

Of course, if they catch it, suddenly it will become a "major problem".

Anyway, she got her full vaccine after some hesitation, so at least I was able to get her across the line on that one.

This is the article I was talking about, by the way. Note the guy who's a Trump supporter. I think he would fall under the category you mention Geektastic.

(edit: apologies for veering into the political arena).

I certainly did miss that, @sbiddle.

I don't do Twitter. It just seems like a place for angry ranters who labour under the misapprehension that their brain farts should deserve my attention!

75 and 4 cases. But I'd say testing has plummetted over the long weekend, so 79 cases might be rather high
