Well that's the cafe who doesn't like jabbed people taken care of...

Vaccinations will be mandated for staff at any businesses where vaccine passports are required for customers, including hospitality, events, gyms, and barbers.

She says this means staff and customers will be treated equally.

This is another good cage rattle!

Suppose its just co-incidence that the person who went to Blenheim, that may have bent rules,
was unvaccinated. There has been plenty of opportunity to have done so by now.
It seems to be a common feature of boarder crossing sources ?

Vaccination reduces your chances of catching Covid, and your chances of passing it on.
If your workgroup, social contacts are also vaccinated,
it reduces your chance of coming across an infectious contact.

As our key export industries get ready for their peak production seasons.
Many need teams of people working closely together through summer, and into autumn.
Virus outbreaks in rest of New Zealand have potential to cause damage to exports.

Given the warnings issued by at least one key trading partner re SARS-Cov2 in supply chain,
and farmers in export countries looking for excuses no matter how thin to restrict competition.

So... certain businesses must have vaccinated employees. Unless they "consult" and decide to exempt them?

The employment laws need revamping. They were created in a pre Covid world. I'd suggest that if the law requires staff in X industry to be vaccinated and they refuse, there's no consultation, just the P45 and thanks for your service.

Isn't the it the case that if you are in a business that requires customers to show a vaccination cert, then you must get your staff vaccinated.
You must give them 4 weeks notice and if in that time they get vaccinated they can keep there job.
Not sure what consultations are required for those businesses.

And teachers etc have been told - vaccinate or retire, no consultation required there either.

The consultation is for other businesses who aren't using vaccination certs.
That seems reasonable, but if 90% of your staff are already vaccinated and you are a business owner wanting to mandate vaccinations for your staff, I can only see the consultation producing one result.

It's that pesky bill of rights in action again. Seems to be working OK if you ask me.
The correct result is happening and people are getting choices and consequences.

Am I just reading this wrong, or are these two statements in opposition to each other

For those who will lose their jobs due to the vaccine mandates, Ardern says: "Your ability to access government support, and your ability to access for, e.g., an unemployment benefit or to seek support in finding new employment is not, and will not be affected by your vaccination status."

and

Michael Wood says ministers will looking at extending vaccine mandates over the coming weeks and they could cover government services like Winz and MSD: "We'll be investigating that."

"Wood urged workers in the affected areas to get vaccinated now, saying employers will have to consult workers and their representatives when making risk assessments about whether their staff need to be vaccinated.

Employers can exempt employees from their vaccination mandates, Wood said. "

If he meant what you wrote, he should have been clearer.

This sums up NZs situation in a nutshell.   Also not enough effort being put into vaccination. I can't believe how uniformed and selfish some people are being out there and on social media. It has really increased in the last week. Also noticed some of the questions today from the media were following similar tracks.

Hmmm

With the mandate this is very much going to cause conflict between my fiancée's brother who's an anti vaxx and very pro "God will protect me" kind of guy and the rest of us.

He's going to get very very angry over the fact that he'll be restricted and it might add more fuel to the fire(upon other issues).

If anyone's got pointers that could maybe persuade that be helpful but at the same time. Should I just not bother and let that anti vaxx brother just find out the hard way?

"Police have condemned a planned hīkoi or march from Rotorua to Northland which is believed to be making its way towards Auckland this evening."

Never mind condemning it. Arrest them! Enough already.
