I can't believe that they still aren't requiring vaccination prior to crossing the border. The risk profile of Auckland has changed since they allowed exemptions to cross the border, and most people should have had enough time now to get fully vaccinated. The border seems very leaky. They should know by now that you have to do multiple tests during 14 days, as they do in MIQ, and sometimes covid positive people don't get detected until the final days test. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any accountability now for leaks. It is 'oh well, we expect covid to leak throughout NZ'. But it can only leak where it has a path to leak. MIQ was introduced because people couldn't be trusted to do the right thing.

Batman:

Piecemeal.

But if you recall I said your best chance of Auckland coming out of lockdown is covid everywhere. Once that establishes there will be no need for Auckland to stay in lockdown.

It makes it a lot easier for the government if the whole of NZ was in the same position, but I am hoping that isn't the plan prior to being fully vaxed.

Depends on the risks. 2pm will tell that story. Apparently they are both very unwell, so possibly laid low for most of the Oct 15th onwards?

But the risks (as initially advertised) weren't low - Infectious for at least 7 days with clear signs of illness and not using tracer app. They may have possibly laid low and if thats the information that has been given to the health authorities then so be it, but my suspicion is that they would have at least gone to a supermarket, gas station and a possibly a chemist at a minimum. Wasn't there was a minor involved (they travelled to CHCH for childcare)? - was the minor at home or at an educational facility? If at a school or ECE centre, then the risk of infection is anything but low.

So there are LOIs, and they weren't scanning OR vaccinated, but there's no consideration of a lockdown.

Meanwhile, a million Aucklanders throw their hands up in the air in frustration.

Agree, it "appeared" that as they were sick a lot probably no issue, but there are 7 or 8 LOI's, AND there are 9 close contacts, so multiply any tiki-touring to cover those as well.

Apparently, Nine close contacts have been identified across three households in standup, I wrongly thought it was 6 families ?
Until their tests come in we will not see their LOI's and due to privacy their contacts will not know.
Due to incubation periods , this may not show up till a later day3 or 5 test ?
So its cross fingers time ?

Other way around. (She) Reside here, flew to AKL to look after a child/grandchild for 5 days. Got it (likely in last days of that visit - hugs goodbye anyone..) Come back home. Partner (truck driver) come down with it.

Those location details are now out. But many appear to be delivery points rather than regular shops other than the Bishopdale NW (which was packed at 11am and lines out the door)

I joked that we are possibly at the point that going outside in AKL without precautions is likely a lottery about now. This shows it may not be far from the truth. But at the same time, there will be no linking to let us know how they got it.

Or throw hands up time?  I'm sure anyone here in ChCh would have expected a level increase, even for just a week to see what pans out, i.e. cases not from the 9 close contacts. If all good, drop it back. If cases, then at least spread was reduced

"The case was tested before they returned home to Christchurch"

"Ardern said the decision to keep Christchurch in level 2 is consistent with their approach in other regions when they've known the origin of cases."

One plus is that mask wearing does appear to be generally good when in public shops, so the supermarkets etc should be lower risk.

If I was a cynic I would say that now government has "live with it" aka "traffic lights" as the end game,  a few cases popping up round the country is seen as a good incentive for people outside Auckland to get vaccinated sooner..

I'm not sure you'd need to be a cynic to have that view.....

It is quite clear, Auckland comes out of lockdown by vaccinating Counties or use the excuse of "it's everywhere" . And yes if the virus is in your backyard you are more likely to get vaccinated. Win win.
