It was inevitable. Just a matter of time. Too late for vaccinations now but maybe this will push the procrastinators to get them anyway. That will still help the survivors later.

So this is the 'Stick' approach, rather than the govenment using carrots to get people vaccinated.

The problem is that once it is throughout the community, a percentage of people are just going to ignore any restrictions or requirements unless they get very sick, as there is now no hope of eliminating it and going back to normal. I know someone in the UK, and they had some delivery people delivering a new washing machine. The delivery people refused to wear masks when entering their house to set it up and were rude, and we are going to get that sort of thing happening here. How many people who develop mild covid symptoms are going to, are are currently bothering to get tested.

Over 200 cases today is very high for a weekend when testing in Auckland is a tiny 7800. That is nearly 2.5% of those tested that have covid, which is a very high rate.  The trend is obviously going up quit a bit despite the increase in vaccinations which is supposed to slow down or stop this growth. The PM said 1400 cases a week is what their modeling showed for the end of November, but we are already there, and probably greatly exceeding that when you factor in all the people who aren't getting tested or have mild on no symptoms. I think NZ deserved some information from the government today about what is happening in the rest of NZ regarding cases, because obviously they can't just let it rip in level 2. Otherwise why is Waikato and Auckland in level 3? I thought suppression and ringfencing these cases with localized restrictions would be common sense.

We should also be greatly concerned that it appears many isolating at home have not been provided with pulse oximeters which at it's very basis is the one critical thing that everybody who has Covid and has symptoms needs access to.

How much supply do they have. Aren't they going to need millions of them. Do people get to keep them or do they have to return them.

Noting.

The number of first doses has been clawing its way up, to over 7K, impeding last day or no work ?
https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-vaccine-data#total-vaccinations
OK its not a large number but we got as low as 3.2K on 7th.

I did hear someone tiring of dealing with people who use various substances,
tattooed with inks of various unknown compositions forced into the skin.
Then going on about purity of their body with regard to vaccine.
Some hazing of people who do get vaccinated as well.
As one does in construction, trades.

Yeh its not exactly a rush yet, but maybe we get a last moment burst for various deadlines.
We do need implementation of vaccine certificates to really get the tail.

Even Singapore has had problems with Telehealth, people getting cursory and concerning lack of follow up.

Healthcare is run at its limit, so I expect when they say we have x extra capacity.
That's if you shut down a whole bunch of things and also institute much lower levels of individual care.
Not a bunch of empty spaces with a ton of staff rehearsing until cases arrive.

Has anyone else noticed that Our World In Data appears to have changed they methodology/base data?

In the past we were around 77% vaccinated (single does), just behind Denmark, which meant the NZ figures where probably about 2% on the optimistic side, since OWID were using some out of date population data.

Now they have us at 74%, which is 2% below the MoH, where was are at 76% vaccinated (single dose).

https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=NZL+AUS+USA+GBR+JPN+PRT+ESP+DNK+NOR+ISR
https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-vaccine-data#total-vaccinations

Does anyone know why the difference?

OWID might lag behind the MoH figures, but OWID usually show when the data is more than 1-2 days out of date and we are only gaining a fraction of a percent each day. These days 2% is equal to 1-2 weeks of NZ vaccination.

Previously our world in data was understating NZ's population which made out percentage figures look about 2% better than reality. Now they are using 5.12m. This seems pretty fair based on the stats NZ estimates (5,106,400 as at 31 Dec 2020, annual change +66,000).

Should note that most commonly quoted vaccination statistics in NZ are the Ministry of Health ones. Their population numbers are quite different from that of stats NZ (based on people who have engaged with the NZ health system and been issued an NHI) - Means some demographics such as south east asian show as having a greater than 100% first dose turnout...

I think you might be getting ahead of the play. No-one in this discussion has indicated knowledge or experience on that.

Whats the carrot? $500? I'd be into that, I'm double vaccinated but I will still be eligible for that carrot

Some places have been offering vouchers. Such as Fuel and supermarket vouchers etc. There was also a story posted on here recently about someone apparently holding out in the hope of a big carrot.

You would hope that reporters are asking those questions to the government at the next standup. Obviously home isolation with covid has been planned to be the new normal, and these devices appear to be very important.

Thats fine, as long as vaccinated people like me, also participate. Otherwise its like paying criminals not to break the law, and ignoring the MANY of us that did our bit

I think that was some real estate agent a couple of pages back, who was (rightly, IMO) called out as being quite selfish for doing so.
