On the vaccinations side, first dose numbers are still holding up above 6,000 a day. Which is great.
I guess thats the human element, governed by carrots. But who cares, if many more are jumping onto the train. While "for some" its inconceivable that we are doing well, we are. I was talking to someone from Waiheke Island today, she said its ok, she appreciated the response but its hard. yes, I agreed, its like the Govt/MoH asking who is angry and who is less angry. The bottom line is that there is no happy vs angry result. Its the lesser of two evils. Businesses can do stuff soon, populous can get out and about, its moving forward. And for a prominent and affected poster here, no thats not ideal, but there seems little choice. I hope he knows I am referring to him. And caring.
I imagine it is largely the sticks now. Anybody who works in a workplace that can operate more freely if they opt to use vaccine certificates's (+Police & Military), need to have their first dose by Friday to keep working uninterrupted. Estimates have those mandates (plus the ones already introduced) covering 40% of workers in NZ, so it's a pritty big stick.
And also the approach vaccine pass system will be motivating some. I'm willing to cut my own hair, but many arn't... and unless you turn to the black market for your hair cuts, if you don't have a vaccine pass, you are in for a long, long wait.
Carrots have been around a while now, and don't seem to be significantly changing in size. That said, I heard that a far north pack n save did a record week when sizeable vouchers for their store were used as a vaccine incentive.
I imagine a significant factor is that with 92% of the eligible population vaccinated, there are decent odds that each un vaccinated person knows of a handful that are vaccinated, and are not only still alive, but also willing to talk about side effects etc.
And of course there are many people doing tireless outreach work week after week.
