Problem is Medical Council seems to be toothless and missing in action.
Wait and see what police do, or anyone else but them.

They know of something less than 30 antivax doctors.
Apparently its great news they know, and we don't.

Their patents may not know they are signed up with doctors giving them less than good advice.
Medical council should be sharing what it knows so people can be aware.

Undoubtedly there is much more where they have thrown their training out the door not just this.

Its their doctor and they are told to go to their doctor to discuss any concerns about vaccines.
So we have sent them to...

Murupara, some parts of Northland , and people seeking weight loss programs in Christchurch.
Apparently there are many more, though maybe less than 30 ?

Batman:

I think as @MikeB4 said, this is what we don't want, a I vs you mentality.

These guys are stressed as hell because they 100% believe the vaccine with absolutely alter their body and turn them into some crocodile or something.

It's like you don't want to tease someone with a mental illness, even though they are violent etc.

And you think its fine for this person to be a nurse and work for ACC too?

I can't know for certain, of course, but the sense I get about her from both news reports is that she has been taken aback by the response to her initial (pseudonymous) macho threats and is trying to do damage control by backpedalling. I don't doubt she will now do what she says but I do suspect that her beliefs haven't changed and if a future opportunity presents itself, she will probably revert to type. This does not strike me as someone who should be trusted to make health care judgements about the sick and vulnerable.

I think when a doctor and nurse display these sort of mentally unsound behaviours and make mentally unsound decisions, you have the medical council and nursing council who will deal to them. So I will support the decisions of these 2 councils whatever they may be.

I'm just very happy that the people who run the country are mentally sound.

Her best defense if she wants a future in Nursing is to get a psychiatric assessment done and have that taken into consideration.

However it will be very hard in this context, to prove that you can meet the competencies around knowledge, decision making and good judgement.

You would need to jump through a lot of hoops to be reinstated, and you would need an employer willing to put in place the supervision requirements of your practice.

Nursing Council would also want sustained evidence of a stable mental health period that is being treated and responding well to treatment.

They would also want evidence that any medicines you are prescribed as part of that treatment, do not impair you in meeting the core competencies of the role.

All that said, her role with ACC may not be related to her qualification as a nurse, ACC may have employed her based on skills and work experience. So she may have an avenue to take there.

I know nothing about the protocols in Govt depts like ACC.

It looks like the same one they did a drop on during level 4 lockdown, but I didn't see one in my mailbox, so I guess my neighbours don't clear their mail very often.

If they printed it on thick, soft, absorbent paper it'd find a lot more favour with people.

Apart from being distressing for the person involved, this is not helpful for encouraging the residual hesitant to get vaccinated :(.

From Washington Post today

  • 1 in 420: The number of Americans who have died of the coronavirus.
  • 1 in 290: The number of people who have died of the virus in the most hard-hit state, Mississippi.
  • 1 in less than 7: The number of Americans who have had confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
  • 1 in 1,300: The number of Americans who have been hospitalized with the virus, per data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • 72 percent: The percentage of Americans who say they know someone who has died of or been hospitalized with the virus, according to a Pew Research Center poll from September.
  • One-third: The proportion of Americans who say they’ve had a family member or close friend who has died of the virus, according to an October poll from YouGov. (The numbers were similar across the political spectrum, in case you think people might oversell or undersell the toll of the pandemic in their personal lives for political reasons.)
  • 1 in 8: The number of people, in that same poll, who say a family member has died of the virus.

Do they also list how many are antivaxxers or think the whole thing is a hoax? I'd be curious to know if that's a big proportion of the US population (hopefully not).

The anti crowd are really going to make hay with that. How could such thing happen? It never even occurred to me that this could be possible when I had my two shots. Now I won't be able to stop thinking about it when my booster is due.

This should be impossible.

At least a trained nurse with experience would never do this. A used needle is a threat to the vaccinator until it goes in the sharps bin. The first thing on your mind after you stick someone, is to get rid of the needle before you accidentally stick it in yourself.

This is like a race car driver forgetting which one is the brake pedal.

I can only think this is related to exhaustion, inexperience, distraction, and someone having a total brain explosion.

But even then it is really hard to believe that it happened.

You get into a rhythm with thee things, you mechanically follow the same steps over and over and over, to me this is a one in five million event that makes no sense at all.

I gave injections and was around injections for nearly three decades, errors occur, accidents occur, but this is the first time I have heard of someone reusing a used needle it is unheard of.

Low day for Auckland cases, and high day for Waikato cases.

Number of new community cases: 80
Number of new cases identified at the border: 2
Location of new community cases: Auckland (51), Waikato (21), Bay of Plenty (7), Lakes (1).

Obviously just a single days date, but works out to 3 & 4.2 cases per 100,000 population respectively. If today isn't an outlier, it means the focus should be going on Waikato rather than Auckland for spread prevention measures.

Pretty sobering statistics.

Have to wonder how the mis-information leading to low vaccine rates, opposition to mask wearing etc. continues to exist given such a large chunk of the population has seen the impacts of the virus close to home.
