From Washington Post today
- 1 in 420: The number of Americans who have died of the coronavirus.
- 1 in 290: The number of people who have died of the virus in the most hard-hit state, Mississippi.
- 1 in less than 7: The number of Americans who have had confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
- 1 in 1,300: The number of Americans who have been hospitalized with the virus, per data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- 72 percent: The percentage of Americans who say they know someone who has died of or been hospitalized with the virus, according to a Pew Research Center poll from September.
- One-third: The proportion of Americans who say they’ve had a family member or close friend who has died of the virus, according to an October poll from YouGov. (The numbers were similar across the political spectrum, in case you think people might oversell or undersell the toll of the pandemic in their personal lives for political reasons.)
- 1 in 8: The number of people, in that same poll, who say a family member has died of the virus.
Covid has a number of sinister qualities that are unique to this particular disease. Covid is insidious...a silent creeping menace, the illusion of a slow train wreck (actually if you take a long view, this could be a slow train wreck that lasts 5-10 years....add up that death and misery toll).
If modellers somehow could use quantum computing at the start of an outbreak like this, to predict with accuracy, the course of a pandemic, taking in all the variables using qubiits...you would find that most Americans would have been horrified at the impact of Covid after two years.
Approaching one million deaths in two years would have sent Americans into a vaccination frenzy.
But like tobacco, Covid kills your people slowly, too slow to stop them smoking.
And that is not even the most dangerous thing about this disease. Covids greatest weapon, is to prey on the selfish gene of mankind.
The Asymptomatic mechanism ensures that the selfish, the indolent, the disaffected, and the uneducated form this delusion in their minds "It won't affect me".....well as this post I have quoted so ably points out...Covid "Affects everyone".
So what have we learned?
We have learned that old people and the chronically ill do not matter enough....nor does the random lottery of a child's fate matter to the narcissistic social media generation of this plague of moral blindness.
Some things are true of any age, the anti science attacks are the same threatened people who bullied geeks in the playground at school when they were children, because no one likes a smart kid....Scientia pontentia est'.
The first target of fascist thugs is the intelligentsia...I digress....but there is a reason people with good hair throw stones at people like Anthony Fauci from the Fox platform.
We are seeing the trickle down of this, with our nurses, people who studied hard to get degrees, being abused on the front lines by Morons.
Our own Ashleigh Bloomfield gets targeted for heavy criticism when really, even if you do not like the decisions, this man is clearly one of our brightest minds and most adept communicators.
I have posed the question to others about how they would see this anti Covid movement reacting to a new Mutant that acts like MERS....lets say Covid ups its game and kills half of all of us....what say the antivaxxers then?
Most people I have invited to entertain that thought experiment assure me that the antivaxxers would go into hiding from a beast like that and would only emerge to get the vaccine.
Yeah nah I dunno, these people are not accepting this reality, why would they pivot all of a sudden and wake up to the reality of a MERS like murder fest?
I think they would use the same predetermined bias to come up with some new lame narrative....I mean according to them more people are dying from the vaccine than from Covid....i doubt that idiocy would change even if Covid was fifty times more lethal.
Personally I think Americans are war fatigued, I think they have PTSD from this thing, I think they no longer know what way is up.
