Not that any fainting in less than 1% of children would have indicated anything.
Well anything bar the effect of allowing protesters to intimidate children.
Which might have been the deliberate disgusting aim of some to cause distress to then point to.

Noting that pop stars and such have been causing this in mass for years because that's what people expected.
If there is no clinical harm, its a nothing burger.
Policing the disgusting behavior of antivax would have reduced any such events, but seems our kids are very sensible.

Somewhere there is a statistic being tossed out on Metaverse and someone has run with that.
Reading what is put in front of them being their only skill ?

My neice worked herself up so much she flaked.

But others who go through drive through with a tablet or distraction seem to not even notice

Lady at the window, oh no wee tear at the last second sight. And done. If they're even scared at all after some basic explaining

When I got my booster there was a young girl (I guess about 12 or 13, but I couldn't say for sure) who fainted in the waiting area after getting her jab. I heard her mother say to the pharmacist that she had worked herself into a real state before getting it, and was afraid of needles.

Good on her for getting it. I hope she gets her second (that may actuially have been her second, I don't know), I applaud her bravery.

I took both kids in on Sunday, a very positive experience. Staff were excellent despite being inundated post the 11am announcement. They attached a device called a buzzy bee to the kids arms, which vibrates and helps stop them feeling anything. That, plus a quick game of distraction, neither child noticed they even had it done.

Got my booster at the same time and despite having no reaction at all with the first two, I was totally lethargic and sore for the entire day yesterday. Back to normal today though.

Thats really awesome service re the kids

My 2nd jab was like your booster jab, after effects wise, but my booster last Friday, was a sore arm and no tiredness. Oddly I can and did mow all the lawns Saturday with the sore arm, no issues, but picking up the TV remote hurt!  A muscle angle thing I guess

My boys both had their first injection today. They both did really well (I was a bigger baby than they were!)

What I thought was a peak in NSW hospitalization numbers is now looking like more of a Plateau:

Yep, at best.BUTTTT  with an endemic situation, who will get tested?? Many wont. Ive got "possible" symptoms, I will stay at home. Its the right thing, but understates cases. And understates infections.

As you say it "seems" to be a plateau. Beds and ICU is the metric as they are a "must do"

What I like about the NZ approach is that we hold off as much as we can, and we can then look at real life results, and tailor ours.

Mask wearing while seated at cafes and restaurants?. Seriously? That's not going to work.

Restaurants, More bending odds a bit. But not like Beckham

I have heard people describe that they manage it in Europe kinda.
While you eat or drink its mask off, when you are just chatting between courses its mask on.

Limit time of exposure
To give café, restaurant a lifeline, vs closing em.
No perfect solution is acceptable.

Its a risk but if you are also vaccinated and all others and staff well you decide what risk you accept.
But then we don't enforce this properly so we end up with an imperfect mess.
Imperfect but so are we, a poetic match.

Our future robot masters will cure this one way or another.

Or you can stay away from indoor public social food settings and lower that type of exposure risk to zero.

Buggered if I am going to Cafes and Restaurants during omicron....it's nuts.

Just keep swimming...

have another look at what was asked of all and then come back :)

The expectations was when we opened up. You would sit down. Take off. You would eat. You would put it on. You would get up and leave. Just like exciting a car into a supermarket or retail and back.

The reality. Is people learnt from others to wrongly take it off when you walk in and were checked. (And in malls with a drink in their hand..) And leave it off. Get up, go for a pee. Order more stuff. Walk the mall 'drinking' Etc etc

It wasn't intended. Today clarified to keep it on when not seated but in common areas. Just like workplaces when not at your desk do but ask you to in corridors and with others.

So if people are going to a cafe for a chat only. Need to rethink where they do such a thing. There's plenty of outdoor places or private residence to.

And the mask wearing except when eating is a putoff, just like a Buffet Restaurant we went to, sit down, here is a menu of less food options, no photos, they will make it, and you have to say small medium or large and so on. Like the cafe options mentioned here, the social and casual aspect makes it less appealing

My local cafe is more like a social club at certain times of the day, especially first thing when they open at 9.00am with small groups of 2 or 3 people meeting over a coffee. It is not like an inner city cafe.

They enforce a strict passport regime, all the staff wear masks all the time and the vast majority of regular customers wear them when they are moving around but remove them when they are seated.

Tables are at least 2 metres apart and there is also a large outdoor garden that is popular when the weather is playing ball.

I just can't see people in that environment masking up when seated. If they were forced to I believe most of them will simply stay away and the place would have to close.

And without financial support from the Government many small local cafes will close down due to lack of income.
