Let's see those anti-vaxxer goalposts move...

New Zealanders will soon be able to access a third type of COVID-19 vaccine, COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said today.

“The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine will be available to people aged 18 and over, following Cabinet’s confirmation yesterday,” Chris Hipkins said.

“Novavax is a protein-based COVID-19 vaccine and while the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine remains the preferred vaccine of most New Zealanders, for some people, the arrival of Novavax will be the extra incentive required to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“There’s no reason to doubt that with the introduction of Novavax, New Zealand can continue to nudge up our vaccination rates. We’re already one of the most highly vaccinated countries in the world – at 95 per cent of people aged 12 and over – and we can go higher still, which will make us all safer.

“The first doses are anticipated to arrive in New Zealand this month and officials are working with Novavax to confirm the delivery schedule and rollout start date.

“In the meantime, work is underway to prepare for the use of Novavax in the immunisation programme. This includes workforce training and ensuring logistics measures are in place to ensure that those who want to be vaccinated with the Novavax vaccine will have this option,” Chris Hipkins said.

They can be far more informative than the snippets selected by media when you hear the raw details.

Especially when Dr Bloomfield is on hand to explain smart people talk, and they miss it out cause the general public want how many, and were they jabbed.

Exactly. I've had anti media/government people tell me things have been hidden etc & I've been able to say "actually that was addressed & explained in the live briefing".

I thought it very interesting that the average stay in hospital is 2.2 days. This is probably lower than I thought, I don't know of the delta figure.

This means though that you could have 3 cohorts through a hospital in a week which makes quite a difference to the total number of individual patients that actually require hospital care.

I think it would be due to any breathing issues and keeping a close eye on people to see if it is short lived or not. As well as for people with diabetic conditions

Or they are in for something else and come up as being Covid and that Covid isn't bad enough to keep them in after they original reason is over.

The condition of people sent home from Hospital ?
We did have people in MIQ very sick who could not get in at one point.

Having had a few relatives go through Hospital.
In normal times the space is always needed for someone else. What its like now ?

Its ok for those that have conditions that don't need more rehabilitation or recovery time.
However you are unlucky enough to have a secondary infection or more than one thing going on.
Fall behind the normal timetable, and while staff do their best management or resources mean.

Don't let door slam you in the back as you are pushed out.

Hopefully people are monitoring their progress and not shy to call for help.
Do you wait for and ambulance or arrange an uber ?
Then you have problems going through the triage crush at entrance and getting readmitted.

Hopefully its not so bad and even short staffed we can manage. Number 8 Wire and all that.

So people actually want Sinovac ?

They should occupy the grounds of the China embassy until China vaccinates them.
Actually it will be a propaganda field day for China that there is such dedication to get
Sinovac.

Actions speak louder than words.

Question, with many retailers offering RATs for sale, is the government going to be sending out free RATs soon?

https://covid19.govt.nz/testing-and-tracing/covid-19-testing/how-to-get-a-covid-19-test/#where-to-get-tested

I know you can go to the testing centre but if you can order them there is no point purchasing.

This is disappointing:

https://www.nzdoctor.co.nz/article/news/covid-19-south-auckland-gps-call-new-anti-viral-drugs-battle-against-omicron

We've been told over and over that filling up hospital beds is a risk. Paxlovid and molnupiravir can help patients avoid hospitalisation yet 2 months after approval by FDA we are still over a month away at the earliest in NZ, when I hope the Omicron outbreak will be well into decline.

"In a statement, Pharmac’s chief medical officer Dr David Hughes said it expected the new medicines to arrive in the country between April and June."

Very disappointing.

Nova-Vax was always simply an alternate term for No-no-Vax,

They will always be reading  "new information" that will "convince" them of the unsafe-ness of any of the vaccines....

There is a small subset who for a medical or reaction reason not have a MRNA or AZ vaccine, but these are not the people you see out in the media headlines...
