KiwiSurfer:

As for expired kits, I tried a expired kit once and it didn't have enough of the fluid solution left in the tube so I guess one of the reasons they have expiry dates is because the solution sometimes goes off? Ended up chucking the kit and getting a new one which worked fine straight away with plenty of fluid in the solution.

Last year I did a test and the whole panel bit turned grey, thought that was odd. It had expired some months prior. Bought some new tests and was negative.

Second round for us. Glad we had a box of tests handy, whole household including five month old has it.

Don't think I will bother testing for covid given it only tells me if I have covid or not--not very useful given there's not much I can do if I know it is covid. I'd prefer testing for the flu instead -- if there is something like that available? Or even a multi test to show if it's covid/flu/etc. It'd be much more useful for me to isolate if I have the flu IMHO as I don't want to pass on the flu I've had.

There are! These are the ones I have but there are others. That's how I found out I had Flu A a few months back.

Has the waste-water testing been sunsetted? I'm guessing there's a lot of it out there atm but the data hasn't been updated for weeks

I'm four kits down, started to feel bad on Sunday and still testing negative.

Wonder if it's the expired sets, although they gave my partner a very strong Positive first time.

It looks like still active: https://esr-cri.shinyapps.io/wastewater/#region=Auckland&site=&log_or_linear=linear&period=eighteenMonthsButton

Last updated 9th of Jan with data from up to the 5th, according to the dash.

I mean it shows an uptrend in the waste-water, which I'd expect to be much higher when it next gets updated.

This one is hitting much harder than the first one, the cough is definitely chestier.

For people who have been more than six months since their last booster, the latest multi-variant version became available on the 20th (pity it doesn't work against Trump as well), so you may want to consider getting a shot.

Edited to add: Direct link for booking.

Edited a second time: The 20th date means they made it available on that day, so the pharmacies etc had got it in prior to the 20th and switched to it on that day, not that they started distributing it on the 20th and you have to hope you get the latest one.  This targets the JN.1 variant which is the current dominant strain.

That's very timely

I thought about it last night (almost aligns with an overseas holiday last year) that I hadn't seen an entry in my calendar but must be close. And sure enough, jul 4 last year so up for another now.

I usually just walk in and get it the same time as the flu jab I get from work.

One on each arm.... in saying that I currently have COVID and it's been 3 days of suffering without getting better.

I could probably get away with that too, but just to be safe made a booking at Chemist Warehouse instead since they do it via their own site.

Sorry to hear that. On our first (and only) round (so far) our two-week old got it. He had the mildest symptoms out of everyone though and bounced back quickly.

Well now our immediate family and close friends have it too. This one definitely spreads as fast, if not faster than when it was at its peak.

Get yo jabs.
