The whole thing has been caused by people travelling into NZ with virus. If we knew what we do today, a couple of months ago, I suspect we would have blocked incoming travel straight away as a proactive move to act early. But then they would have had so many people complaining etc. Next time it occurs, I would hope things will be done differently. I almost think that when this is all over, that future travel from some higher risk countries, may involve forms of quarantine as standard.

100%

There will be lots of learnings. There has been many outbreaks like this, but the issue is globalisation. And the masses not playing ball. "Shoot that's not good but it won't happen to me"

dumb question with the kiwisaver business - if you keep the funds as they are, they will be reinvested into the black hole sharemarket correct? so move all existing and future funds?

Honest? I wouldn't mind about money at the time ... the world will not be the same afterwards but it will continue for sure.

Oblivian: You cannot prove there is 200 people on each of those flight's. And think you will find it further from the real figure

There are more leaving than arriving

I assume you mean my post as in 60 x 200

The rules are that no one can come here except NZ nationals/residents.So I stand my by number. f the aircraft are 321's 330's 340's A380, 200 per aircraft is about rightish.

Yes, there will be Aussies leaving and others , but at the end of the day we are importing a few thousand per day. As they are NZ nationals/residednts, i have no issue with that, we look after our own. My point is, thats where most (if not all) cases are coming from. Its just a perspective  meaning

Singapore and South Korea are doing great. But i doubt they have the nationals incoming as we have

No doubt ill be cut to threads but IMHO NZ MoH is doing very very well. Our case imports are a "it is what it is" but our end results are very good

Those leaving are not a concern.

What I want to know is how much notice will we get if we move to a total lockdown situation (i.e. level 4)? I have a vulnerable contact who I would want to check on before deciding whether to spend the lockdown period at her place or return home.

Or would the level 4 restrictions still allow people to make personal visits to people who they genuinely need to check up on? It's quite unclear from that basic summary PDF.

My concern is that the authorities may not give any advance notice for fear that it may spark panic shopping, etc.

Do it. When if you are pulled up, say it. When you are seen to be a part of the support effort you will be allowed. The idiots who ask "can't find an illegal pub" they can be dealt with

I was watching the BBC news last night, and it gave in insight of what NZ maybe facing in a few weeks / months , depending on whether we get any widespread  CT occurring. They did a story on a local medical practice. They were saying that their staff dealing with suspected COVID cases all expected to get it. They had split the practice into two levels, but they all entered via the same door. The bottom level was for suspected COVID cases, and the upper level was for normal visits. The  doctors on upper level would take the place of doctors on the lower level that got sick.. They were critical of the masks they were supplied with and just a plastic bib, it all looked poor, and just normal stuff you see in a doctors office. They had one suspected case visit, and he had to pass a mask out to her through the window. The doctor referred her to the hospital. But later they said that she was sent home from the hospital to recover and was not tested because he hadn't had contact from anyone from overseas, so didn't fit the criteria.

DarthKermit:

No hand sanitiser at my local supermarket today. So I purchased a bottle of Listerine with alcohol in it. That should be effective I think.

I don't understand the difficulty with alcohol for homemade sanitizer. Just use meths... it is 100% alcohol. Some is methanol (can't remember the percentage... 20% ???) but that's irrelevant, because methanol is just as good as ethanol as an antiviral.

Or have hoarders bought out all of Bunnings and Mitre10 and all the supermarkets?

This is the problem I am finding, there is a lack of information, and a lack of  detailed information. Yes, what does level 3 and 4 involve in terms of travel in and out, and are people liekly to be cut off. As they gave a good amount of time for air travellers to come into NZ, I would be surprised if they just instantly block the entry into town. What would happen if you couldn't get home, where would you stay and who would cover the costs involved if you have no money on you, it potentially leaves those people vulnerable.
I would also like to see them do all announcements with the PM and MOH combined, rather than them putting out different announcements which are linked. I would also like to see the MOH staying and answering all questions, and not limiting the time  like they have been.

The PM has advised that all people over 70 should 'stay at home'. Is that therefore the same as 'self isolating', in the same way that someone traveled from overseas should go into self isolation. eg They  therefore must not go to the supermarket etc? IMO if so, this is  huge move, and makes having a dedicated hour for older people to shop a moot point. Who is going to be doing their shopping for them, as many may not  use computers for online ordering ?

I appreciate all your posts. All of them.

But I think you are over thinking this. If you act in a caring and reasonable way, you will be fine.
