Thats what Ive been saying. Buit they are Kiwis they have a right to be here, but we seem to manage that risk ok.

We are so not managing the risk okay. And NZ doesn't have constitutional supremacy. Parliament can pass a law to close the borders now and, frankly, they should.

OK. The time for pragmatism is now. It is probably spreading. It is probably spreading quicker than we can test for. Lockdown to some extent, 3 or 4, is inevitable.

It is unlikely the Govt will leave mortgage holders to languish when other countries are following through with direct support. It's also inevitable some/many people will loose their jobs. We are past 1987 in terms of probable economic impact.

Whatever happens now, we cannot change. It will happen, so we have to make sure it happens in a way that gives us the best chance of climbing out of things on the other side.

Is this based on the high number 36 new cases today?

When there has been an official Press Conference saying 102 cases, and widely reported worldwide,

why has the official case website still show yesterdays update? (When you can access it!)

And they say on the case page: "We'll be updating this page as new information is available."

(Did they not learn from Geonet lack of capacity and the major earthquakes?)

And their main Coved-19 page as of this minute still says:

"Current situation

New Zealand has 66 confirmed cases of COVID-19. "

Meanwhile, here's the NRL being their usual dropkicks:

They are still ploughing on with their stupid games

It doesn't matter that there's going to be no crowd. Players, coaches and support staff are still needlessly gathering together. And it's a high contact and dangerous sport. In the event one of the neanderthals who play get hurt, he's going to be taking up medical resources that are better used elsewhere during these times. It's incredible to me that the Aus government and public is putting up with this.

So is your opinion. Perhaps a few less one liners?

Agreed.

"[Health Director-General Dr Ashley Bloomfield] said the alert levels were a government decision and the Prime Minister would be talking about the alert level within the hour."

The best possible result of this would be a Level 4 Alert Level, imposed today.

No, just that our course is predictable but hopefully so are the interventions along the way.

I'm finding this thread to be an excellent support / advice group. However, the thread could have a few sub-topics to make things easier to find. And, one or two people, although making good contributions tend to dominate the discussion thus making the thread overly long! Perhaps people should limit themselves to a maximum of 2 posts per day and this might make the thread more manageable.

In that case I agree. The 36 today is not relevant its plane counting of people that are out of harms way. Id like that count to reduce, turn it into "we feel there are 36 probable cases today that flew in recently" and leave it at that. Then focus on Wairarapa and AKL, and I assume GPs nationwide are feeding inputs to MoH? So we can see that most areas have near normal issues, and the odd one that spikes, and focus there. Its great that we test so many but we test "safe" people that just threw away a boarding pass, thats surely not that helpful?

Another member suggested creating a Q&A sub-forum or topic that would be open to people to ASK questions and only those with a "DR" or "Nurse" would be allowed to post replies to these questions.

The main problem is diverting these with "DR" and "Nurse" from their main focus in this time of need.

Comments?

When it's all said and done, there are some businesses, individuals, and entities that have exposed themselves for the utterly immoral and avaricious nasty beings that they are. Ones that particularly belong to this hall of shame include: (1) the Vice-Chancellors of University of Auckland and Victoria (the former being my alma mater), who spearheaded the efforts at relaxing the travel bans that affected overseas students and descended to insinuating that some of the policies were race based, (2) the NRL, (3) hospitality venues that do nothing to enforce social distancing and are in some cases openly running promotions to attract crowds during these times and their apologist industry associations, and plenty more. Remember these things, people -- spend your monies wisely in the future.
