freitasm:

I have removed "gun talk" from the last five pages. You won't be talking about killing people in here.

Having said that, squirt pistols with soapy water make a great alternative to out-of-stock hand sanitiser :-).

Wow, I finally got an email from a business saying they didn't consider themselves essential and were shutting down! Miracles never cease.

People don't seem to understand the difference between WFH and Essential!

neb: Three weeks, or a month here, gives the government time to see how bad it really is. That's the trial period. Then they can figure out how long they really need to lock it down. Look at how long it took Asian countries with police-state regimes and powers just to slow the increase in infections, and then map that to the UK...

Yes - and while  CT cases are low here, the level 4 lockdown gives much better ability to contain imported cases by self-isolation (and maybe forced quarantine later), and much better ability to contact trace any suspected CT cases.

"Starve the beast" - it's our best shot.

3 weeks, which appears to make sense. Slightly less impact. All those that have it now, tested or not, should be cured after 3 weeks?

If everybody played ball with this lockdown we could be free of the virus in 3 wks, or 4 wks. The 4 CT's will be cured the rest being travel related will be cured. Incoming arrivals (unsure if they will be stopped) will be isolation along with the rest of us . Whatever is still out in the field will be due to people not following the lockdown, or an inadvertent incident with legal essential staff. If we do still have numbers here and growing then I guess we penalise everyone so we can catch the few, but the few will still flout the lockdown. Article on CNN today talking about the frequency that restrictions and lockdows are flouted around the world.

And that's the problem, lots of people aren't playing ball. Beyond that we'd also need police-state powers like South Korea where the telcos monitored everyone's location via cell tower pings and the police broke up any gatherings of more than a few people, or Bulgaria which is running under 40-year-old Warsaw Pact chemical weapons attack protocols. With 100% compliance, four weeks might just, barely be enough. With the long tail of noncompliance, it'll be several months.

while the wife's psychology therapy practice must close.

Mrs. Neb is a psychologist and runs her practice online, it's pretty straightforward. PM me if you'd like to discuss it, we've been debating doing a writeup on how to move mental health practitioners online.

Seems that The Warehouse is not authorised by Govt yet, they must have decided they are (as they sell some groceries)

When the Govt decides we will know, Id wager they are declined.

Sideface:

Man dies after self-medicating with chloroquine phosphate to treat coronavirus

That stuff is banned in many African countries, where malaria is a real problem, because it's too unsafe to use without very careful medical supervision. Expect to see more deaths in the future from uncontrolled use.

Having said that, if you've got Covid-19 I can see why you'd try it, in the same way that people try anything if they're diagnosed with something like cancer.

Sounds like the defence force will get involved if 4 week self isolation fails?
