Standby for a Civil Defence Broadcast Alert this hour

I *knew* that the government wouldn't be able to resist using that at every opportunity. It's not like there's any imminent threat that needs to be responded to immediately.

How long before it gets played whenever the All Blacks lose?

Geektastic: What would someone who is visiting NZ and was staying in the Sofitel tonight be expected to do if they can’t afford to stay there for 4 weeks?

Get deported.

This has been brewing for weeks now. I think anyone arriving now for a holiday has been deluding themselves that they were going to have a happy holiday so no sympathy from me.

My au trip was cancelled 10 days ago when the 2 week isolation rules started to come is. So if you left from UK which is the furthermost place from here it would have been 36 hours ago and the writing on the wall for much longer than that.

Stuff happens.

And if you were partway through your world trip you should have headed home last week instead of continuing one to nz.

There is sympathy up to a certain point and then theres you are an adult you have to accept the consequences.

I am sure this has been mentioned in previous posts but the thread is getting pretty long now.

Has anyone dared to hit "Single Page"?

This was warned about 48 hours ago. This person could have found other accommodation.

What a silly comment. It's not used at every opportunity. It's an emergency. The message is not hitting some people. This is just another - very valid - way of reaching a huge number of people who don't watch TV, don't read newspapers and only get their information from "Facebook experts".

The "slippery slope" argument is not relevant.

Amazing the number of people visiting around here before the "lock down".

I would have thought it was a greater reason to stay away?

alasta:

Do you disagree with Jacinda's decision to allow people living alone to have contact with one other person from outside their household?

I think it is a sensible compromise, and hopefully people will use it in the spirit that was intended.

Yesterday I spent 3 hrs trying to get my elderly sister-in-law & husband back on line with internet. First hour & ½ me doing trouble shooting (iMac - NetComm NF18ACV - ONT box), next ¾ hr awaiting Trustpower help line, last ¾ hr trouble shooting again. Finally got it all going after a total factory reset of modem, scrubbing network settings in iMac OS and setting up again. The help desk stated it had something to do with the modems LAN settings that there were multiples of them (???????).

Anyway when I left all was working, including voip phone which runs straight off the ONT.

This morning I get an email from them and a phone call from my other sister-in-law saying their phone is not working. So internet was but not phone. By the time I get there in early arvo internet not working as well now.

Phone just goes; dit dit dit........dit dit dit

Trouble shoot again for ½ hr then ½ hr wait for Trustpower help line. She asked me to do a couple of things, then put me hold. Came back and said that in the area I was, Otumoetai Tauranga, there is an outage which started during the night and Spark (which Trustpower uses in that area) had no time for getting it all up and running.

I rush home to pick up spare mobile phone, an old Warehouse variety for which needed a new SIM card. Off to Warehouse, lined up for 10 minutes at 2 meters apart to get in. 15 minutes later all going with cheap plan. Off to sister-in-laws. ½ hr instruction on how to make and receive calls. They had no idea about texting so did not go there. This is to be their emergency contact phone only. I texted all the relevant family members about new number and it usage.

My question is (yes I finally get there) if and when their landline, normal ring tone, and internet come back on, I fear I may have to go and do something. CAN I DO SO???

The difficult we can do immediately. The impossible takes a bit longer. But Miracles you will have to wait for.

They should stop all the adverts on tv advertising this is open and thats open. Pizza hut was still advertised as contactless delivery. Would be great to have an advert ban for 4 weeks as well. No point advertising something thats not open.

Possibly. It’s a hypothetical question.

Tourists presumably can’t get to the airport to leave now.

You could easily make the same argument for these 10000 kiwis apparently about to turn up: they’ve known for weeks they should be back. Someone needs to shut the door.
