Liason officers are deployed for a reason namely to talk and coordinate. This week there has been a deployment of Reserves in support of other NZDF personnel.

Deployment does not mean we will see armed soldiers patrolling or at check points or LAVs on the streets. But providing back up and logistics for the Police and Civil Defense.

MikeB4:

bmt:Got a source for that deployment?

Just look at the various NZ press sites. The PM also advised same in her press conference.

Stuff in their article dated 07/04 says NZDF deployment is only to help the hospital in Invercargill prepare a ward.

At the bottom of the article it also says this. But New Zealand is yet to see soldiers manning checkpoints or patrolling streets.

" Easter I believe is a major threat to the lock down and that is why the NZDF is being deployed this week."  Edit: not very good at multiple quotes.

Your implication in your original post was that the NZDF would specifically be deploying over Easter because of lockdown breakers heading away over the weekend. ie we would see uniforms on the streets.

NZDF have been providing support to all government agencies since Day 1.

The NZDF deploying in NZ is very common I don't understand the apprehension. There isn't a winter goes by without the Army helping with floods etc. They are the best prepared to react fast and to provide logistic support.

There is no apprehension at the military being deployed I would suggest.

There is some apprehension at your sensationalist approach and lack of attributable sources.

I don't feel that there is apprehension, it's more a case of the media using incorrect terms which create a distinctly different impression from what the actual case is. A few officers being seconded to MBIE / NCMC / AoG to assist with planning is vastly different from a troop/platoon or squadron/company being deployed.

There should be military checkpoints (yes the unimogs blocking the road) from an Auckland perspective setup on the Bombay hills (and the few routes not on the motorway), and again up in Wellsford, again with "back roads" also check pointed starting today.

I'm sure the other major centres also have a few key roads that can be blocked to send people home who think the bach is an ok idea!

GV27:

The return of overseas travellers without firm quarantine makes it really hard to understand why Ardern keeps saying we "closed the borders" when the borders are demonstrably not closed.

I thought we were going to be polite and respectful of our national leaders; PM, PM Ardern, PM Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister ❓

There is only two roads leading into the Coromandel and one into Raglan. Very easy to police. The mayor of Coromandel has already complained about the midnight sneak in arrivals.

FWIW, as more small scale clinical trials are reporting that (Hydroxy)Chloroquine doesn't work, the President's supporters are flooding the interweb with character assassination of the medical researchers and institutions, even accusing them of child abuse blah blah BS.

I think it is good to be respectful.

It was quite OK for people to say to Key (or even Jonkey) and Clark, Palmer, Shipley, Bolger, etc when referring to our previous Prime Ministers and now suddenly it's not OK at say Ardern. I don't quite get it. It is very common to see a person referred to by just their surname in the media and elsewhere. Providing the tone of the comment isn't disrespectful I see nothing wrong with referring to our Prime Minister by her last name.

I think Ardern is ok.

I don't think Jacinda or Cindy are ok.

I hope this settles it.

Carry on back on topic.
